Well, everything has finally arrived, here she is. I had been playing it through the combo's speakers, and boy was it ever loud. The closed back is really the way to go, plus these speakers are a little less sensitive than the Mesas, so they aren't nearly as loud, I can actually tuen it up a bit and not be deaf in 5 minutes. It's the EL34 version, and really the best way to describe it is "The best Marshall tones you've never heard". No need to boost or add an OD, just goos the gain a little and it sings. Even the clean channel sounds better through the closed back, less upper mid boxiness, just nice warm tone. I think it's a bit more gainy than even most modded Plexis in 1st gear, but the tone is amazing, especially the way rolling back on the volume cleans it up. Getting into 2nd and 3rd really lay on the gain, but as so many people have posted no matter how much gain you have, it's still very clear and you can hear everything you're playing. It's a great amp, it complements the Mesa nicely.

**** that is one fine piece of tail! Prolly the nicest looking head I've ever seen. I love the zakk wylde type rings. I just ordered the soldano in white. White heads ftw. How many channels? If you don't mind how much did that head set you back? Also do you know where I can find clips of this head?

Go to www.splawnguitars.com to find out more. They started by modding Marshalls, then started building their own design based on the Marshall circuit. The site is a little confusing, but basically you are taking thier gain channel and chosing what tubes (EL34s, KT77s, 5880's, KT88's, etc.) and chosing the wattage and if there's a clean channel, that determines what amp it is. This one is a Quick Rod with EL34s, but if they were KT88s, it would be a Pro Mod.

There are two channels (clean and dirty) but the dirty channel has 3 gears (to keep with the auto theme). They are:
1. Modded Plexi
2. Modded JCM800
3. Ultra Modded JCM800

Also, there is a footswitchable OD1/OD2 that works on all the channels, so you basically get three footswitchable sounds, but 6 total gain sounds.

There is a Splawn Fan Forum that has some clips, Youtube also does, but they kind of pale in comparison to hearing one in person. I bought mine unheard from a local ebay seller in almost mint condition, then ordered a new cab and headbox to get the white look. There are prices on the site, mine was a couple hundred cheaper since it was used. I love the white look, I'm just worried it might look like garbage in a few years. :eek:

If you play it at some smoke filled places it will prolly get that vintage coffee/cigy stained teeth look. That yellowish tint. I mean if you don't dent it to hell thats the worst that could happen, which is not quite as cool, but still cool looking.

Well, I'm one of those Gain guys, I like to have it on tap if I want it, but usually I keep the gain on the Mesa below half and the Splawn has been just about everywhere equally. I really do not like maxinf out the gain on an amp and not having enough, having to add an OD or boost in front to get what I want. Both of these have gain in spades.

Nice amp man, that thing is killer. I bet it will really kick ass set up in stereo with the mesa, I love the combination of a good british sounding amp and good american amp together. You must post some clips of that monster.
