New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Hmmm. Thinkin' I may just get a custom "real" Becker guitar made.

Ascension, I'm gonna shoot you a PM. If you could tell me some of the main specs that I'm looking for that would be killer.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

IMO without the original Jackson/Charvel headstock it won't look right to me. Nevertheless, props to Carvin for bringing back JB's axe to public.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

pls clarify.. When you all are speaking of a "real" Becker, are you talking about the numbered inlay one? Or are you just referencing the headstock shape not being exact?
Cuz he actually owned and played a blue one much like this. And they would have to pay out the wazoo to Fender for the exact headstock..

Not trying to stir things up, just wanting to clarify. To me, I think its Stunning.. and if I wanted it to be more like Jason's, Id get the headstock in black.. But, I prefer the overlay matching the body..
Ive heard they have corrected the tone issues. My 1990 I just lost in pawn was AMAZING!!!!! Ive the tone issues are corrected, Id buy another in a heartbeat...

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Well there are three main JB guitars actually.

The Carvin we're talking about:

All so very awesome and I'd love to have a replica of each some day. But I'm after getting one made as close to the original specs, as the original Carvin, as possible. I may even just keep my eye out on the used market for a comparable model.

...

Oh and here's Jason getting a little sugar from Gretchen Menn and some other cutie. :D

Go on with your bad self Mr. Becker.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

I found the answer on the Carvin Museum that they used the Jackson headstock only in 1988 and 1989.
Far out. I have a Carvin bass with that headstock. I bought it brand new from them in one of those years, but I can't remember which. I do think I figured out what all I wanted on it though by looking in one of my Carvin catalogs that had Jason Becker and Marty Friedman on the cover of it.

Saw that in my e-mail box a few days ago.

I remember vividly seeing him in a youtube video for the first time a few years back and thinking what a freakin' tragedy it was for such an energetic and pleasant guy with such enormous talent to get sth like that that basically stopped him in his tracks on becoming the next Eddie or sth.

I was so happy when I saw that no matter what, you cannot keep a good man down!!!

Absolutely! I'm so happy he's still continuing to live and love life. Intensely inspiring guy.

You're too kind, man! Jason's definitely influenced my style a lot. But I am absolutely NOTHING compared to him.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Thanks for all the great pics!! I had forgotten the numbers was a PV. I remember Carvin making a copy of it a few yrs back.

Looks like Carvin's new tribute model is closer to the orig than I first thought. Are you saying you'd rather have real one to avoid the tribute model stigma?
Its still killing me that I lost my Carvin in a pawn last week.. What a great playing guitar..

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Oh that sucks, man!!! I HATE pawn shops! Lost so many great instruments to them. :(

Anyways, I'd like to get my own made do to the few apparent differences Ascension pointed out to me. I'm sure it's a great guitar and I have nooooo problem rocking something with his name on it but I'd just like to play something a little closer to what Jason was actually playing.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

What does he have again? MS? I remember making fun of him as a kid, not necessarily individually, but the whole shredder thing in general, he was just one of the forerunners of the genre, and I used to hate on pretty much everything.

Pretty much feel like a d-bag about it now. Still not into that music, but there is room for us all, and dude was at a level that most of us will never acheive.

This is one dudes' sig model I would have no problem buying. If they make one of those numbers guitars I just may do it.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

The hockey stick pointy headstock was used from 1988-89. Jackson sued them so they then modified and used a variant from late 1989 - 1991. The late 89-91 headstock is what they use on teh tribute and Becker did play a couple with that headstock.
In 1992 Carvin went to the straight headstock with the big logo then the straight pointed headstock with the small logo in 93 when they went with the scale change from 24.75 to 25 in 93. The neck profile from 1988 when they went from set necks to neck through - 1992 when they went to the 25 scale was pretty much the same and MUCH different from today's Carvins in feel.
Carvin had another big change in mid 1994 and changed the headstock to a more rounder straight design when they went to the graphite rods and a thicker profile. Thank GOD they dropped the graphite a few years back as to my ear the graphite rod guitars just sound dead.
The new guitars have a longer scale thicker neck profile and the board radius of 16 that Carvin used on the shredder neck 88-92 guitars is no longer used.
You can get a 14 radius with the Floyd or a 20 with the Wilky at a up-charge though.
