New Carvin porn

Re: New Carvin porn

I find the height thing odd.
Especially since it's recessed into the body.
Thus allowing for an even lower action than you would normally get with a LP.

Also, found it a bit odd you prefer the Gibson corian nut over the Carvin/Graphtech nut.
For most people it's the other way around.
Or did you already swap your Gibby nut for bone or something?

My bad for not stating that I replaced the corian nut with a bone nut. It was the first and only mod I did to my les paul. Man I almost forgot about it until you said something. I like bone because it's clear and bright and I also like lsr and brass nut material too.

It looks deceiving. The string height is adjustable but the string tension can go no lower than it is. It's not a big deal but I thought it was kind of odd that Carvin would limit the string tension adjustment like that. It makes not difference to me because I don't want to adjust the tension and it can be easily fixed by using heavier string gage. I noted it because Gibson bridge is more adjustable.

Thats great! Thanks! You still loving it now youve settled in a few days??

Yes I do. I'm happy with them. I knew I would love them because I had CS4 once but it was stolen. This is even better than before.

Re: New Carvin porn

Man those CS-4's are NICE! I'm sure they sound as good as they look as well. They kind of remind me of the rare and hard to find Yamaha Weddington guitars that were out in the 90's. I'm still on the hunt for a Weddington Custom, but I did manage to find a more or less new Weddington Classic. If I never find my prey when I have the cash, I might have to send Carvin more of my money (I do own one Carvin already) for one...

Go over to the Gear Page.
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/
Someone was just talking about selling their weddington in the guitar forum.

Re: New Carvin porn

I'm not a member of that forum and cash is low because I have to pay the IRS a wad of money before April 15th.

Yes indeed I am now inclined to sell my les paul to buy another CS4. Playing it makes me not want to put the guitar down but my fingers are sore to the bone.

Re: New Carvin porn

I find it weird that you list the lack of body and neck binding on the Carvin as something you like better than the Gibson, but I guess that's subjective.

What do you mean by short scale? I thought these were longer scale (25") than the Gibson (24.75").

Why do people make statements like "I find it odd.." when they read opinions? What is so odd about opinions really except if it doesn't match your expectations? To answer your questions I prefer not having the binding because i can clearly see the maple cap all around and it looks nicer that way. It's a cleaner look too in my opinion. I like the binding too like Jackson USA guitar but the way Carvin does without binding is neat.

I asked Carvin if the CS4 was the same length as les pauls and they said very close and I think the number was about 24.85" or something like that. The CS4 is the same length as my les paul as you can see in the photos if anything a hair shorter. Visually comparing neck to headstock looks almost exactly the same length.

As for sound well the CS4 does not have wide harmonic range like 24 fret guitars. It sounds very much like a les paul or PRS sc245. It is short scale in my opinon.

OK!
I gotcha.
The TOM can go lower.
But, you opted for the Stop Tail and have it all the way down on the body already. thus not getting the downward angle you want.
Now your statement makes sense. :1:

Maybe on your next one (yes, us Carvin owners are never content with just one. :) ) Maybe try the the string thru body. That might give you a little more downward angle.

Yes many people have swear by string through guitars. In some way the stop tail sounds more the way I like and is adjustable. I didn't care about the angle to me because there is adequate tension but I just noted it because it seemed odd that it can't go down further like on Les Pauls.

Last night I looked at the bridge again and raised it to lower the string tension and I think it is perfect now. It was fairly tight and little of struggle to play the upper frets but now is buttery smooth because the strings give in easily without having a very low action. It did not seem to affect the sustain either.

Maybe on my next build I will consider string through. Are there advantages of string through over stop tail?

Re: New Carvin porn

seriously why are you looking to change the pickups on the CS4?
I was looking at those chrome covered PAF style pickups for my upgrade
wahts wrong wit em

Not a single thing wrong with them. They are great pickups truly on the level of Dimarzio and SD in my mind. They sound completely different in my CS4 than my DC127. In my DC127 too bright, in CS4 is subdued. If the new pickups dont do it for me then I go back to Carvin pickups. I think I'll try Duncan custom in my CS4 first.

Re: New Carvin porn

ahhhh

well the price is much more pocket friendly

I am considering them
are they 4 wire pickups by chance?

Re: New Carvin porn

Neat. What finish is that? A pearly gates sounds great. Does it have enough output compared to Carvins?

The finish is Honeyburst... I ask for it to be a light burst... As far as the pickups, the Pearly Gates set is an excellent match, they are very similar in output to the S22's but have more of a PAF flavor. The S22's are a more modern sounding pickup, although they were not bad... They didn't quite do it for me. But once I put the PG's in, I fell in love...

Enjoy your CS4 man, I know you will, mine is just exceptional, it gets a ton of play time...

The scale length on the website is stated as 25" I believe.

Either way, it's longer than the Gibson scale. The length of the guitar is irrelevant here, I'm talking about the length of the vibrating portion of the string.

Re: New Carvin porn

Congrats on the pair, both look really cool. I used to have a DC127, it was my first Carvin, played it for year.

Here is a pic of my CS4, without a doubt my #1
