Been out for a few months now but seems to have mostly slipped under the PR radar.

Celestion's response to the criticisms of the V30 perhaps?

By the official description sounds like it could be a less strident and more balanced V30, not unlike what other companies have been producing for a few years now.

Thoughts?

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

Even cheaper rebadged Asian knockoff than the chinese v30? Or maybe it IS the chinese v30, while the v30 name returns to the Made in UK stable?

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

98 dB with a 31oz magnet? It's definitely not a v30, also freq response graph makes it look more top-endy and a little less mids.

Ack.... Bastardized much? Less mids more highs than a v30 - sounds like a description of "bugera vintage 70w" speakers

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

"A heady, exciting modern vintage sound" :)

Sounds like they're trying to please all of the people all of the time....

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

My feeling is that this is to become the new 70/80. Better marketing becuase of the name, but a less expensive speaker manufacturers will be inclined to use in less expensive amps.

Well, if its EQ curve truly follows a "cheap v30 knockoff" mold, I just fail to see anyone being particularly satisfied... See, them Bugeras the description sounds like are just fine the way they are, but the $200 price tag two plainer Celestions might cost people got me a "free" 11-tube 5150 knockoff on top of the speakers - hence overall satisfaction... But if somebody tried to charge me Celestion price points for that kinda product, they'd have one seriously upset customer with a grudge!!

...then again, I'd be even 10x more miffed had I ever actually paid anything, much less MSRP, for any gt75-loaded product, yet loads of guys actually drop the $900 for Marshall 1960 A/B cabs, and there hasn't been a single riot to date

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

Some of us actually like T75's brodude.

Rly? With what kinda gear/ for what styles? And absolute like-like, even compared to some pretty posh stuff, or "works for me, beats that 99-dollar Crate SS halfstack cab"?

Do you like em enough to see yourself ever paying sticker price for them, like if you blew a speaker or needed an extension cab asap for a gig that same night or something?

These are being used in Fender's '68 Custom line of amps.

Short clip of Pete Thorn playing a V-type. Bit hard to tell what the speaker sounds like with all the delay going on:

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

I finally playedone. It sounds very good in those new Silverface Fenders. It was kind of a V30/75 mix type of sound. It had a very nice even frequency range. Nothing too pokey like a 70/80.

Not sure I would buy one as a replacement speaker, as I like my GBs, H/V30s, 65s, etc. But it is a big step up from a rocket 50, and an improvement on 70/80,and IMO, the t75 too.

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

Jeff, that sounds like a "jack of all trades" speaker. Not strong in any area but will probably work well in most amps for most situations. Not particularly exciting if one has a particular colour in mind. Might be appealing if one wants V30/T75 mix without the spike.

Do you have ANYTHING of susbstance to contribute to this thread? ANYTHING at all? Cuz everything you've typed out so far has been a whole lot of useless wild speculation. Go play the damn speaker before opening your mouth.

Exactly. A good solid tonality though, not to be mistaken as a typical lower price Celestion such as the R5, 70/80 or typical lower end Marshall combo speakers that are made by Celestion...F15, etc.. the V type is a quality speaker.

Re: New celestion V-Type speaker

I have played several in the new 68 RI Deluxe from Fender and I can tell you in that amp that speaker sounds simply fantastic!!!
SO good in fact I'm thinking about dropping one in my Zinky Velvet.
