New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

according to steve over at dimarzio mark was happy with the BREED set but wanted minor tweaks done them, hence the DOMINION set
what i find odd is mark is coming off of 59's that he used for several years?
he took quite a leap to the breeds from the 59's

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

I thought they were hot PAF's that were tweaked for Vai and since he plays longer scale length, bolt on, trem'd guitars it makes sense for someone to tweak them for playing a LP-ish guitar.

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Breeds supposedly sound like big hot PAF's, right?

lol

um yeah:) but really the 59 is a real deal clone of the PAF and the breeds are like some mutation of a PAF when compared. not very "true" to the orginal.
hex poles,overwound,different wire,different bobbin material,different baseplate,etc.
I just found it odd he went from a clone PAF to the BREEDS? would have thought the one of the duncan customs would be a more likely choice from using 59's

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

there's literally nothing I can't play with a '59B in the bridge and neck. maybe it might need an alnico8 in the bridge, but still: I can do it all with the 59. or the PG, or the jazz8, or the alnico2pro. but still. so I wonder why this guy needed to go to Dimarzio... maybe Dmz pays better? :P

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Are you referring to the Seymour Duncan Gus G signature model? hehe

I thought this day might finally come. A signature pickup that I actually care about! Mark Morton is practically the reason I started playing guitar again after a long hiatus. The specs are intriguing. I'm glad they didn't feel compelled to put some stupid graphic or logo on it.

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

I like LoG's music but IMO their guitar tones have nothing to write home about. There's something fuzzy about their tones I don't like. IMO the big part of their tones is the Mesa Boogie Mark series with graphic EQ they haul over everywhere they go.
But this pickup set definitely makes me interested. We need more mids, baby! :D

Speak for yourself. Lamb of God has an incredible metal tone. There's nothing fuzzy about it. Try listening to it without the influence of drugs :)

Yeah well every now and then the time comes for an upgrade... the 59 is not one of my favorite pickups.

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Apparently there is a new Lamb of God album out, I had no idea until today! I'm very annoyed that these pickups haven't been launched properly with a promo video and sound clips and all of that. No reviews posted yet either, I guess they are not available to buy yet?

I emailed dimarzio last week. I was told theyre shipping put but you always just get your dealer to put in the order for you.

As for clips. Supposedly Mortons been using them for about 2 years now road testing or whatever.

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Yeah, I got ahead of myself complaining about the clips, listening to the new LOG album right now, doesn't get better than that!

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

I just jumped in to say that if you think the Breeds sound like PAFs you either

A: have never heard a set of Breeds and believe everything you read
B: have never heard a set of PAFs, and therefore had no way of knowing that Breeds sound nothing like them
C: are deaf
D: are saying that Breeds sound like PAFs because you want to have an opinion and you read on a forum once that Breeds sound like PAFs. To this group: STOP! You are making the internet stupider.
That is all...

As for the MM pup...the neck pickup looks more interesting than the bridge, I really don't care about another hottish/ceramic/middy/harmonicy bridge pickup from Dimarzio, they have like 1000 of those already. Also, how is the bridge a medium power pup but the Breed high power, the MV rating/magnet choice would make you think that they would be the other way around. Silly Dimarzio!

? They are both (bridge models) in the 'High Power' category on their 'site.

Interesting! I may be remembering incorrectly, but I swear that they had it in the lower category and changed it.

I remember reading the description and thinking it was odd that it was in the medium power section despite being hotter than the Breed.

I'm probably just trippin' though...:friday:

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

8 string Dimarzios...pretty awesome...

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Haha, I have no interest in an 8 string, its just good to see more variety in aftermarket pickups for them.

The MM also has the VV tech in it which, despite the hotter wind and ceramic magnet, probably alters the magnetic field just enough to keep the output close to the Breed.

I guess it's like how some folks compare the JB and AT1. Ive read how some say the AT1 doesnt seem quite as hot as the JB, despite the same magnet and similar DCR. Well, the AT1 is an airbucker with the VV slugs in it. That changes the magnetic field.

Just an observation.

Re: New DiMarzio Dominion Mark Morton Signature Pickup

Then again, I have not had the chance to try the AT1, Breed or MM.

Aside from Super D, 2 and 3, I dont have much DMZ experience.
