Re: New Gibsons
SO I posted this thread:
https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?334766-Gibson-quot-New-Collections-Coming-quot-timer on the countdown timer for Gibson's new collections. Well the timer has gone off, and they are all up on Gibson's web site now.
They have released two new collections: the Original Collection and the Modern Collection. The Original Collection has 12 guitars and 2 basses. The Modern Collection has 11 guitars and 1 base.
Here's the link:

I've read an interview with the new CEO of Gibson, and this very much looks like what he was talking about in it. Trying to simplify the line up without every guitar having to change every year.
The Original Collection has addressed some things that were just missing or wrong in the catalog. There is a nice Flying V that to my eyes they got exactly right. It's what I've called the "consensus" flying V. The smaller pickguard, three knobs in triangle formation, the Tune-o-Matic bridge. Yeah, it's not the 1958 version, but it's the "ur" Flying V that I think a lot of us have in our minds when you think "Flying V" - including the natural honey wood color. $1700 list.
The single cut-away Juniors are both there, in both the one pickup and two pickup versions. Again, they just look right, including the wrap-around bridge which is a part of those designed. $1500 and $1600
The Gold Tops, one with humbuckers and one with P90s. $2500, your choice.
The Modern Collection includes the Les Paul Classic, Modern, Studio and a new (to me at least) Les Paul Tribute. The Classic is $2000. The Studio is $1500. The Tribute is $1200. The Modern is $2700, and has this description:
The new Gibson Les Paul Modern incorporates many contemporary updates that players have embraced such as lighter-weight bodies and innovative slim taper neck with asymmetrical profiles. The Modern fingerboard is crafted with genuine ebony and a compound radius for lower, and cleaner action. The neck/body joint features the new Modern contoured heel for effortless access to the highest frets as well as maximum sustain and stability. Hardware upgrades include Grover locking Rotomatic tuners, clear top hat knobs and BurstBucker Pro and BurstBucker Pro + pickups. The control assembly features 4 push-pull pots to switch between the Gibson humbucker and the single coil P90 sounds, both of which have defined so many genres of music across multiple generations since we invented them, phase switching and pure bypass for functional and versatile sonic variety. The new Gibson Les Paul modern is here to shape sound for future generations.
The Modern collection also includes two "Les Paul Special Tribute DC" models, again both a single-pickup and two-pickup version. I am pretty happy with the updates done on these since the early this year Tribute DC's.
One thing I disliked on those was the incorporation of the input jack on the pick-guard. Maybe Gibson product guys read this forum?
