Re: New Gibsons

I think the ES models in the other link were announced at the beginning of the year, not in this batch. I do like the sculpted heel of the LPs, though, although I don't play LPs. I might consider one now, though!

I like the fact they seem to be listening to what people want. That's a big step in the right direction IMO. Prices are lower, but still high. They are made here in the States, that's to be expected.

Re: New Gibsons

I'm excited, but looking at the tops of them on the Sweetwater site...those 2A flametops are terrible.

Not sure why they went with goldtops in both the classic and standard range?

Because some want a GT with a slim taper neck, and some want a GT with a rounded 50's neck.

Re: New Gibsons

On my list since this line was announced around N.A.M.M. time:

- Les Paul Special
- '61 SG with sideways Vibrola

I have never purchased anything from Zounds.

That's confusing. It's a statement, but it has a question mark at the end of it.

Gold tops are about as classic and standard as you can get with a Les Paul. It's the first Les Paul color. It was used on Models with P90s. It was used on Models with humbuckers. It was used on '68 reissues with P90s, and Deluxes. It is one of the colors that should be available on every model of LP produced, as a matter of course, IMO. Putting out a carved-top Les Paul variant without gold as an option is like releasing a car without having black or white paint available.

Zzounds is more or less like American Music Supply. They pack their items well and ship promptly. Excellent return policy and hassle free.

Edit: I haven't bought a guitar from them. Only pedals and speakers.

Re: New Gibsons

Noticed this while browsing ZZounds..
(Bought from them before, no issues. Same company as AMS, IIRC)

On the Standard and Special the specs read as:
Controls: 2 Volumes, 2 Tones & Toggle Switch (Hand-wired with Orange Drop Capacitors)

Is Gibson phasing out the PCBs?

I was going reply with just this...... "Because, GOLDTOPS!!!" You covered everything else. ;)

I still lust for a Goldtop with a 50's neck profile.

Re: New Gibsons

Looks like Gibson is pricing to move.

I would never buy a guitar from Z sounds.

I've one of the 50s Trib models, a matte type gold, but yeah, it is not what I understand you to be referring to! Man, I do love the 50s rounded neck!

To the OP, I do like what I'm seeing, but I need another guitar like I need a hole in the head...

Re: New Gibsons

Personally I’m thrilled with this lineup.
If I had one complaint is that there’s no gold top with a 60’s profile neck.

Gold top
HP neck joint
Cream poker chip n pickguard
SS frets

I'd buy that real quick.

Re: New Gibsons

Hmm, maybe it isn't. Sources online are contradictory. I know music 123 and Musician's Friend (and Guitar Center) are related.
Toy r Us used to own Guitar Center but Toys went out of business.
MF owns GC now.
Wait 6 months & all these companies will be owned by someone else.

Misinformation.

TRU never owned GC. Bain capital owns GC 123 and MF and Bain bought into TRU when they were brought private

ZZounds and AMS are related
