New Guitar Day pt. 1

Well, not technically new per se, but I returned the Deluxe Strat Plus to it's stock form, leaving a '00 Black Strat body as the perfect compliment to the Reverse CBS style neck that I got from Ayrton several years ago... So taking inspiration from Jimi's, Gilmour's and The Edge's Black Strats, I put together my own version of a 1969 Stratocaster.

Specs:
-American Deluxe Strat Body
-American Standard Bridge w/ Stamped Saddles
-MIM Reverse CBS Style Maple Neck (9.5" radius, Chunky C profile)
-Fender Custom Shop '69 pickups
-Parchment Pickguard/Aged White Pickup Covers & Knobs
-CTS/Switchcraft/CRL/Orange Drop wiring
-Neck Tone/Bridge Tone
-.011-.049 Tuned Eb

I really like the 69 pickups, with a little hair this guitar sounds like a clone of the "Lenny" studio version, and they hold up well under gain. The bridge is a little bright, but I really worked the pickup heights to give 5 complimentary positions. My favorite is the neck and neck+mid, but that's probably true for any pickup set.

Without further ado...

Awesome! Exactly the style I would build (albeit, Fiesta/Knopfler red for me)

It's been a few years in the making but I think it does it justice with the black body and '69 pickups. :) The neck and body resonate well together and the 2-post allows for some more extreme bar use but still have the stamped saddles for the more vintage tone.

Usually not overly impressed by partscasters as people usually go overboard somewhere trying to be different, but this one is tastefully done and really captures a cool vibe.

Well done!

Too funny that you posted these today. I was pulling parts last night for some strats I have been neglecting to get back together.

Both just came out great!

Cool! Didn't Clapton also have a famous black strat with a maple neck?

Thanks guys!

Niiiice!

That neck is MIM???
It is! When I received it from Ayrton is was (and still is) in excellent condition. It was too cool to pass up.

Yep, although his is a 50's with the standard headstock and 50's pickups. Very similar to where Gilmour ended up after swapping necks a few times on his Black Strat. I can see myself doing a 50's Black Strat in the future, but for this one I really wanted to capture the late 60's vibe and tone with the brighter and more scooped '69 pickups. It really does sound like those Pompeii, Woodstock and early Edge tones.

That's what I was thinking. I'm a fan of Fender parts builds........aftermarket parts, not so much.

I was definitely focused on keeping everything Fender branded, from the obvious (Neck/Body) to the less obvious (Neck Plate/Bridge/Pickguard). In fact, after a few go-arounds, I've found that Fender is the only way to go for pickguards. The mint and parchment just look "right", unlike the pistachio ice cream or banana look of some of the others.
