new guitar question

hello. i have been looking for a new guitar to buy for a while now and i can't make up my mind at all. i really want to be able to get two comepletely different tones from one guitar. i want a nice crisp fat jazz/fusion tone in the neck. kind of like a john scofield tone. for the bridge i would like a really dark beefy tone to play some heavy delay/phaser sounds on. if anyone could recommend a guitar or pickups that would suite me it would help alot. thanks!

Re: new guitar question

I would think that any decent dual-HB'er axe would fill the bill, with carefully selected pickups. But wouldn't "crisp" fit a bridge pickup and "dark beefy" fit a neck pickup better? :scratchch

Re: new guitar question

I agree with pickup selection. That should get you there on any decent guitar. The Tone Comparison chart on this site is a great guide. Just decide on what type of guitar style you want. You can even make a Tele sound like your description with the right pickups. With all the Rails options now, possibilities are endless.

Re: new guitar question

How much money are you willing to spend?

Do you have a basic body type that you prefer? Such as Les Paul, Strat, Tele, SG, ES, etc?

Two pickups? Both humbuckers?

Without more info there are approximately 5,768 guitars that will fit your criteria. Help us narrow it down a bit.

Re: new guitar question

If you make heavy use of delay the sound fattens up anyway and a brighter pickup will be a better choice.
