New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

I picked up a Hercules 5 guitar rack. I've recently accepted the fact that I will need three guitars for my band, each in a different tuning. Of course, I can't just leave them on the floor at gigs, so I picked up one of these. I've never really liked multi guitar stands - I've heard too many horror stories of guitars falling out of them. But I like Hercules stuff, and this stand seemed to receive acclaim from every owner. There were a few cool features that made me buy this over any other stand.

As you can see here, the guitars rest at such an angle that the chance of them falling out is practically nil.

I really like that the bars that support the guitars are elevated off of the floor, I'd say a good 3-4 inches. The last multi stand I used sat flat on the ground, and it was far too easy for your guitar to hit the floor when you went to put it on the stand.

I love that each neck support piece has four slots to hold picks. It's never a bad thing to have a convenient place to store picks.

And I really love how it folds flat, making it easy to put in the car for practices and gigs.

Additionally, for $10 a piece, you can buy an extra neck support unit and two pads for the bottom to support more guitars. This stand can hold up to ten electric guitars - pretty impressive considering that it's much smaller than any ten guitar stand I've seen. And it's also a pretty good bargain - I paid $95 for this unit, and buying enough sturdy guitar stands to hold all of my band's instruments would be noticeably more expensive. Plus, I've never used a stand that made me feel more comfortable about my guitar not moving than this one. Seriously, once the guitars are in there they won't move unless you want them too. I was shaking the stand pretty hard and the guitars didn't move at all. The stand itself is quite sturdy too.

Anyway, this is an awesome product and you should buy one because I said so.

Nice. I picked up a Warwick RockStand some years ago that holds 7 electrics or 5 acoustics. As long as you don't have kids and animals running loose around the house, you can put one more electric on each outside edge, so it holds 9 electrics (but there's nothing to keep them from falling off the outside, so you have to be smart).

Folds up small, too, and it's sturdy. Haven't been using it for gigs, so no idea on the road-durability.

The only thing I'd change about the design of these types of stands in general is to have padded spacers between each section for the bodies. It's really easy to bump bodies going in or out, especially when you start mixing acoustics. If there were some sort of body panels, even thick cardboard covered in felt, it'd be way better.

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

Very nice! I like the bump guards and the pick holders are a cool features too!

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

Thanks for the tip! Looks like a cool one. I really like the escalated base the pick holders are cool

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

I could use one of those - apart from anything else, it looks like it take up far less floor area then an equivalent number of individual stands.

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

Oh it absolutely takes up less space than individual stands. I haven't checked but I think that maybe two but definitely three stands take up more room than this rack.

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

I need something like that, but it needs to be able to hold destroyers and explorers. Would that work?

There certainly appears to be enough angle between the bass and upper supports to fit those body styles. I'm actually more worried about Fender offset styles like Jags, Jazz basses etc. With the lower supports as wide apart as they are I see these styles still hitting the floor. Obviously flying Vs and Warlocks are a complete no-go.

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

I have the same rack. It is great, takes up so little space. Only I need two more guitars to fill it!!!

Hercules makes great stuff.

Wish I could tell you bud, I just don't have anything resembling (even vaguely) an explorer. I think it would but I can't be sure.

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

Mine holds a Jazz-shaped bass just fine (and a Mark Morton Dominion, which has a similar body shape), but the extended bout has to point outward (the bass side is against the stand, with the treble side sticking out). Mine doesn't have the angle between base and neck rest for Explorers, though. Not sure if they all follow the same dimensions, but I'd assume they do.

If one were handy with a drill, one could drill for a support bar that would help with Explorer-types.

If you turn the guitar around (rather than having the strings and the electronics facing to the right, face them to the left) and the stand should work perfectly.

I got a pro-line one for about $60 last year from Guitar Center. Great products and they do a great job at keeping all of your instuments together. And they definitely take up less space than individual stands.

However I think I'm more a fan of the Guitar Trees rather than a rack like that. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hercule...h-6-Piece-Folding-Yokes-106731037-i1540980.gc

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

Man, I was just looking those up the other day. I will be moving into my house this summer, and I will need a stand like this. Very cool stuff.

New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

This is the only option for storing guitars IMHO, has the best space-usage/guitar ratio
I have a 5 guitarstand cant remember the brand, i can adjust the vertical bar in any angle i want though

I can see that working for flat floors, but it's questionable on carpet, especially deep-pile. Close-knit carpeting would be fine, I'm sure.

As well, it would seem to me the legs stick out further than a single-guitar stand, and until you adapt to it, you run the risk if stepping on the feet, which could result in tilt or fall-over, but undue stress on yourself at the very least ("WHEW! I almost tossed my entire collection onto the floor!")

As for Explorers and such and which way they face, the guitars on my 5-unit are facing left (mostly due to the Morton and J-bass), but there's no way I'd put one of my Warriors on it (same basic style as the Explorer, just with the rear of the body scooped out). They'd rest on the largest tip of the body.

Those I have hanging on the wall, with 2 others and a V on a triple-hanger style floor stand. The tree-style, however, presents an issue where there's always either one in the very back or two on equally-opposing angles away from you. For pointy-bodied guitars, this can be an issue.
Unless, of course, you can afford the floor space to allow the tree to stand away from the wall enough to walk around it.

That makes sense, and yeah if I ever do get the Explorer that I want, I'm gonna get an individual stand. Mostly so I can look at it.

I only like the tree for the absurdity of how it looks. Based on the fact that it holds 6 guitars, you're looking at a piece of gear that ends up roughly 7 feet including a guitar's headstock. More than anything, the tree design, to me, looks like it should be getting used in a guitar shop or by a luthier who wants to display his guitars for sale in his shop. Not for a consumer.

Re: New Guitar Stand... So Exciting.

Nice.

I have an On Stage Stands one similar to that (it's not adjustable). But since your's was about the same price, I'd say you got the better deal.

I became a fan of Hercules stands, though, last summer when I picked up one of their triple hanging type stands. It's sturdy, well made, has those little flapper arms that come down automatically, I love it!
