A Martin D18 custom shop Golden era. I love the burst. It has a huge tone and plays great. I will put on a set of 13's sometime but right now the 12's are ok. Very cool guitar

Re: NEW GUITAR TODAY

That's probably the nicest NGD I've seen on this forum all year.

Well done.

Don't you have a Mirabella and something else on order?

I think we'll live vicariously through you this month!

Yeah I have a few. This one was kind of unexpected I have a Monty Blues Queen coming. The BQ is. Solid carved 335. After I ordered it this one came to my attention so I sold a Tacoma Archtop and I have a studio Les Paul gothic that I want to move as well. At this point I am re evaluating what I have and play. The les Paul I really don't play too much so I would like to see it go to a good home

This Martin is just beautiful it has a 1.75" nut and 2 5/16" string spacing do its great for fingerpicking. It has a fossilized nut and saddle so it's very lively and the Mahogany compliments the adirondack spruce well it is scalloped braced and has ebony fingerboard which is a bit unusual as D18's normally have rosewood.

The Mirabella may come next year. Cris is one of my closest friends so when it gets done it gets done no rushing an artist haha.

I feel blessed with having so many great guitars and fortunately I haven't had to sell off to many. Now I am moving the ones that need more playing time

Re: NEW GUITAR TODAY

nice burst!
Martin is building great guitars these days, and I think they're listening to players' comments too.
The ebony bridge & fretboard on your D-18 were nice upgrades ... I think those were taken from older specs.

I got the updated OM-21 last year, and it's probably the nicest one out of the Martins I've owned. It has the 1.75" nut as well, and that really suits my playing.

I'm finding the same thing. I play with my fingers as much as I do a pick & the wider nut and wider string spacing suits me well..

Re: NEW GUITAR TODAY

Very nice indeed. How do you find it for fingerstyle? I tend to avoid dreadnoughts because they feel underpowered when played thus (and I've played some nice ones). Bet it excels with some flatpicking.

I would usually agree with this but in this particular guitar it plays and sounds great. My favorite size guitar is an OM. I think that size guitar offers so much flexibility as you can flat pick or fingerpick and NOT have to beat on it so hard. But this is a custom shop Martin. The balance from string to string is really excellent and it is loud so I don't really have to pick or strum too hard. It plays softly really well

Yes; one dread I played a while back was made by an Aussie maker - it was used and well played (so, broken in tonewise), but it needed to be driven quite hard to get the most out of it. I'm a fingerpicker 99% of the time, so I hate fighting to get good tone and volume. I like the midrangey timbre of smaller bodied instruments like parlours and 00/000, yet sometimes you want a piano cannon in the arsenal :).

But, as you say, some guitars just have 'it' - have to play them!
