New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Well, let's make this an EVH board lol

With Slash, Eddie etc you will find they overcame the overprocessed tones of the era a la racks etc by sticking with Plexi's, hot rods, and 800s.

you push an 800 too hard it gets nasty.

With EVH, remember he did a lot of stuff with a SOLDANO, NOT a 5150 as people believe.

Slash also used older Marshalls til AFTER Appetite. even Live at the Ritz is 800s, NOT Jubes.

With the aforementioned MIXING of Soldanos and Marshalls - EVH showed how well it works. Most people do not make Soldanos sit beautifully on their own save maybe EC himself! As always he breaks all the rules! Warren Haynes and EVH to this day mix Soldanos and Plexis with great results!

Marshall has a chance to redefine the High Gain market rather than chasing Mesa and the Dual Rec. I am not a huge Dual Rec fan. The Darkness (not my fave band by any stretch) prove it Live when Justin uses Recs and Dan uses SLPs - SLP have that gorgeous FAT tone and crunch, the Recs are a little buzzier). Don't get me wrong, I respect Recs, but I think music might be headed back the right way, and a good Hot Rod Marshall tone might be what's in order for this decade. I would prefer Nu-Metal be left in the dust, in my rear view mirror.

What this all comes down to is MARSHALLS are the real deal!
Amen brother !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! george lynch did a prety fair job mixing plexi and slo on the lynch mob albums.

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Balance had a mix of both the 5150, Soldano and his Marshall on one song. I read that in an interview in one of the guitar mags after that album came out.
If he's using Soldano's on the latest stuff cut, then he needs to rework it because there is no way that some of the stuff post-Balance is a Soldano.

Slash's tone on Appetite was/is his best. On UYI 1 and 2, I didn't like it as much. It's gotten better with Velvet Revolver, closer to what it once was, but that tone on Appetite is just awesome. I'd be trying to keep that amp too if I could.

Marshall needs to stay Marshall and not try and be anything else.

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

As much as I love Marshall, their new amps suck, I tried a JCM2000 DSL401, the drive channel didnt have anything near the classic Marshall roar...

Channel 3 on a ENGL screamer is in my opinion the most hot-rod Marshall sounding stuff I have ever heard from a 6L6 amp.

Mesas suck now, the Rectifiers are way too compressed imo.

I would love to see a new 1 channel monster Marshall, that would rock.

But I wouldnt mind PCB instead of PTP (Some people in here might hear the grass grow ;))

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

AGREED!!!!!

Nice to hear other Screamer users loving that channel, best channel in the amp :)

ENGL rocks, no matter what cables are in it. But lets not makes this into discussing ENGLs now :fingersx:

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Well it's about time Marshall came out with a new amp. The DSL/TSL line is almost 10 years old and IMO is in need of a revamp. here were a lot of things about the DSL's functions and construction that bugged me, and I didn't think the tone was QUITE worth that price. I love that old Marshall sound, but JCM800's don't have what I need in terms of hardware versatility and I'm very picky about my tubes amps as far as what will and won't do it for me. I've settled on a Carvin Legacy and when it's loaded with the right tubes it's an AWESOME amp that defies it's price tag. That being said I would really love to see Marshall make a really kickass amp again that is really worth the money. We've got the boutique level handwired stuff all the rich guys want and have, now it's time for an amp the average player with a moderate/decent amount of money can play and be totally satisfied.

I'm thinking something along the line of a revamped, beefed-up, simplified line of DSL-type amps with better components, better construction, and better tone. Maybe that or something a JCM800/JMP style amp with all the modern accoutrements most players would need. I don't think HUGE improvements would be needed... as I said the DSL line didn't do it for me, but not by a whole lot...

I know Marshall can make a cooler amp. The question is... will they?

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Like I've said before, the MkIII Master Volumes should be reissues. :D Or, take that design for the overdrive and boost channel and then add another channel for cleans, and I mean cleans. It would still be a 2-channel amp except that the OD channel would have the switchable master volumes. Now that I would be all over.

Yep, I agree Simon. One would have to put a little red dot or something on the volume knobs to be able to find them. Otherwise, whoops...sorry.....whoops...sorry again. :)

(I put blue dots on the volume knobs on my JTM622. It helped alot.)

Like an EL34 version of an Engl Fireball......mmmmmmmm!!!!!

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

if they took the huge 800 sound, gave it some more gain stages, a decent clean channel, a few bells and whistles and make it well without sounding like a fuzzy piece of bollox (900,2000, mode4 etc...) then maybe marshall will have a hit on there hands..

I would buy one of these in a heartbeat, and finally be a pure Marshall user again. I can even live w/o the bells and whistles, I just want the 800s gargantuan tone with more gain and a decent clean channel for the less psycho mioments :)

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Must admit that if it were two channel with a decent clean and gain channel in the hot rod JMP/800 mould with twin master volumes, fx loop etc I'd seriously consider once again being a Marshall user.

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

IMO Marshall desperately needs a mid-priced tube amp to compete with the Fender Hot Rod series, the Peavey Classics, and the Traynors. They seem to have split their line between SS garbage and the fairly pricey JCM 2000's. They need something in between.

. . . i agree 100% !!!

Would be nice if they could build an amp that go head to head with the Blues Jr. too !

Marshall SSL 15 watter (3x12AX7's / 2xEL84's) - Single Super Lead for $399.00 US

I'll buy that one !!!

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

here is what they gotta do, just do Major again with a pre-amp that is JCM800 with an extra stage of gain. Not only will it bring real music back but arena supergroup tours as well.

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Read my separate post guys. One of the new range is a 4 channel all tube monster while another is a single channel with footswitchable gain using KT66 power tubes.

Re: New Marshall amp coming out!!!

Instead of the constant "race" to provide higher gain amps, Marshall should just go back to concentrating on pure tone, let the OD boxes to the resto of the work. Some of the best hard rock tones weren't high gain amps, per se, they were classic Marshalls with some kind of stomp box in front - ala Randy Rhoads with MXR, Eddie (well, a Variac cooking the tubes, kinda like an OB OD effect), Yngwie with old DOD, Zakk with Boss Super Overdrive, etc. All unique tones, all Marshall, all stompbox fueled. But the key is that gargantuan Marshall tone. Get that back, get the market back. Leave the Boogie tones to Boogie, Line 6, etc.....
