New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

Randy was known for his kick ass playing...NOT his tone.

this makes little sense to me, but most of the signature items for musicians who have past away and can't even use the product never make sense to me anyway.

I agree to a point. Randy's studio tone sucked, but his live tone was killer. As for the sig. thing. I think it's long overdue for Marshall to put something out like this. Out of all the crap players out there getting endorsements, Randy actually deserved this. I don't think it's in bad taste either. The people that Randy has inspired has been wanting something like this for a long time.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

i always assumed his gain tone was the Distortion + pedal.... i was a huge Randy fan for years and i still am....

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

I makes perfect sense in a lot of ways...randys main amp was a mid 70's JMP 1959...NOT the much more popular JMP MV 2203 head...those 70's 1959's have a different look (big logo, metal front, lighted rocker switches, etc) that Marshall doesn't offer right now (until this amp). It's easy to offer it as an accurate amp since by that time (the mid 70's) Marshall had already swuitched to PCB) plus it's still at it's core something all Marshall players keep asking for...it's a hot rodded Plexi under it all!

All that said, randy had a funky tone for sure but that came not from his amps but from his choice and set up of effects...he always used a Distortion Plus and an MXR EQ witha massive push in the mids on all the time.

I wouldn' buy one but thats me...I bet it's a pretty good sounding amp and they'll sell a load of them if they keep the price with in reason...

9finger is right, Randy's live sound was so much better than his recorded sound. I think Oz was pretty poor at the time of the first 2 album's recordings. His live stuff was really a edgy 'lit' Marshall sound. Something where the harmonics leaped off the fingerboard. Randy's sound was one of those things that unfortunately, you had to be around at the time and have hear him to understand that the recordings just don't do him justice.

It's a pretty amp. Almost angelic. I bet Altec Lansing speakers won't be in the cabs though.

B.S.! Randy sounded great in every way. No one ever listened to Diary Of A Madman and said "This tone sucks." Rany had his own sound. For everything that guy accomplished before his premature death this Marshall head is long overdue.

If that dude can impress Ozzy Osbourne with a 5 min demo on a tiny little combo amp his tone could not have sucked that much.

yeah, that white is very classy looking. I really liked Randy Rhodes, he seemed like a cool, down-to-earth kinda' guy! And one Heck of a player!!

Maybe this will drive up the prices on 70s JMPs!!!! Good for me, but not good if you don't own one!!!

I did! Count me in for the 'why would anyone want to sound like that' camp.
i can appreciate what he brought to heavy guitar playing at the time, but his tone is what keeps me from listening to much of it anymore.
i still don't dig the 'signature series endorsements from non-living guitarists' though- that goes for Randy, Dime, and Jimi too.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

I really like the looks of that amp, makes me wanna get a white LP custom and jam some crazy train, but alas, a 100w marshall would not only deafen me and piss off the neighbors, it would probly kill my poor cat.

edit: on one of the pdf pages from marshalls site it had a 999 price on it, which I assume is pounds, so that makes it about 2 grand.
