New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

Quite nice. Now, when will the REAL hero get his signature head? :D

I don't know if Jake will ever be given a signature series Marshall, but he has no doubt earned an honorable mention on "Dancing With The Stars". LOL.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

They just look so awesome. I went to the Rhoads forum and found some more NAMM pics.
There's even one in black, so I wonder if they'll be available in both colors like the EVH heads.

I'm sure they will...

Don't ever forget... on Blizzard & Diary... Randy always at least, doubled... if not tripled or even quadrupled his tracks. Playing the same thing, solos and all... multiple times perfectly.

He was a mutant!

Somewhere I have a flyer from a mid-70s gig... with Quiet Riot AND Van Halen on the same bill... People would always trip on that.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

It's official. White halfstacks are the coolest. No other color compares. White halfstacks own.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

yeah some of those cabs are empty. just like Kiss.

Not just Kiss...

10 years ago, almost to the very day, I shipped out on a "world tour" in support of a nearly no-name band opening for a B (or C) level act of some renown in the genre. I was tour manager and sound person for what the label called a"baby band"...I always hated that moniker, but it meant a signed band with no touring experience/following...if I only had a cricket bat...

...it took me weeks to get over the fact that our "headliner" on that first tour would bring in two, three, or FOUR "Marshal Stacks" depending on the size of the stage (all were empty, of course...in fact, much of the headliner's guitar sound came from an H&K redbox, not even a mic...). We were playing 200-1,000 seat clubs at the time (e.g., NOT KISS...). I can still remember the first date (yep, Cleveland...hellooooo Cleavland!) when they trotted out the empty cabinets...I was completely dumbfounded...is this spinal tap, or what?? Regardless, I got to circumnavigate the US several times and go to mainland Europe, and to play Ozzfest 1998 on the side stage (and main stage about every 8 dates)...an experience, to say the least. I finished the first draft of my dissertation on the bus in Belgium.

Thanks for bringing (dragging?) up the memories.

Um...don't tell my current employer (a major university in So. Cal...)...

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

I saw the video of the amp. It sounds just like Randy's recorded tone off Blizzard of Ozz- which I didn't care for.

If they could only replicate his live tone off the Tribute album..... that album and the Crazy Train video made me pick up the guitar

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

I'm telling you guys: Randy also used an MXR Distortion + and MXR 10 band EQ for his live tone. I'm pretty sure the Randy Rhoads signature model doesn't have all of that in the PCB. It's cool to see Randy get some recognition, but I hate when companies try to pass off signature amps that don't sound anything like the player's they are trying to replicate. Case in point, Krankenstien.

Also, Randy had Altec 100 watt speakers in his cabs. They don't make those anymore. So much for "signature".

It sounds cool in that clip, but the "gain mod" is probably just a treble increase. HahahalololTEOL!

I'd rather buy a Bogner XTC.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

And the JVM clip right after that! TEOL!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a JCM800 with a Bigmuff in front of it!

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

What are you referring to? I think both the amp and his playing sound good.

I'm referring to the Randy Rhoads sig marshall amp.

I'm saying it sounds pretty good. Y'know, not bad. Many worse out there.

It sounds much like a Marshall with a boogie-style cascaded preamp, which is basically what it is. Cool and different sounding to other more recent methods of upping gain used by marshall...

Actually, it does that and then some...

I had the privilege of having this amp demoed for me (and a few other people who were in the room at the time) by Nick Bowcott. The tone the amp puts out sounds like what’s on the Live Tribute album, but ballsier with a tad less mids and more bite. Same general amount of gain and sustain though… same overall flavor but it’s AMP distortion and not from an MXR pedal so that’s t be expected. He said it’s built after Randy’s 1980 JMP’s which were almost stock, except for the cosmetics and the Cascading Gain preamp on both channels, which Randy originally requested as a factory mod. 2 inputs per channel, no need to jumper the channels, channel 1 being SLIGHTLY lower gain than 2 but still it’s no slouch. He played a stock Les Paul Classic through it and it sounded REALLY impressive. Some of those cabs were empty, yes, but he was playing it through the RR sig cab that was loaded, and it had Celestion speakers in it. He said it would have been too expensive to have JBL (Altec-Lansing = the L in JBL) recreate Randy’s speakers and would’ve driven costs up too high. Still sounds great. Does furious-sounding hard rock and early 80's British metal tones. It sounded really defined and articulate, too. Knowing GJ’s taste in amps, he’s going to really love this thing.

It's a different way to get Randy's sound, but it does get it and sounds great. I give it a thumbs up!

Yeah, it sounded like pure ass. I guarantee you mine doesn't sound like that. Even when I first got my JVM head, I couldn't ever make it sound that bad.

Re: New Marshall Sig Randy Rhoads head.

I'm chalking that 2-channel JVM clip up to bad settings and a bad camera mic. The one at the show sounded excellent, pretty much identical to channels 1 and 3 of a 4-channel JVM, which is an excellent amp. According to the demo guitarist, it's a "consolidated" version of that head in 2-channel format with a master section and 3 modes per channel. It sounded great... if things go as planned I think I may get one and relegate my Legacy to a backup amp.

My taste in Marshalls are ones that stay tight with a nice range of gain.

People are thinking too much about the Rhoads tone affiliation. I just see it as a hotrodded Plexi, which is one of my favorite tones for humbuckers....and strats too. In many ways, this amp also represents what a true VH reissue would have been, if it weren't a 6L6 multichannel.

I may not even want the gain maxed out, just halfway, and use the Klon to take it further, with my LP's. Or, max the amp out completely, and use my strat's volume control to give me what I want. I just like fat sounding Marshalls with nice toneful gain on tap.

I'm just glad they went with 4 EL-34's, because that's what a real Marshall is made of.
