new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Hey guys!

I just updated my soundclick website with some fresh mp3s. These were some tunes we cut in Nashville just a couple of months ago. We recorded everything live on analog at Gene Breeden Studios, then moved everything to digital at Tower Mastering.

Martin Anderson & The Usual Suspects:

Martin Anderson: Singer/songwriter
Neal Bowen: Bass
Andy Parrish: Drums
Randy McFarland (that's me): Guitars

These Nashville sessions were done with the Bogner Metropolis. The guitars were a MIM Tele with an Antiquity in the bridge, and a Fralin Blues Special in the neck position. I also used the Firebird Strat, which has 3 Antiquity Firebird pickups... really gutsy sounding guitar.

BTW, the first 4 tunes are the new ones. You can click on the "lyrics/story" to read the guitar notes, and other things of interest.

These are currently being shopped by some major country-pop artists. Have a listen. Hope you like 'em!!!

Randy....just saw the thread, sorry. Great tone on Table for One! Will check the others as well!

Checked out a few more. You really cover a lot of ground with your stuff, and you do it all well. :)

Randy,

I listened once through the first 2 and liked what I heard. I agree that your tone on Table for One is really excellent. Nice work! I'll try to listen to the last 2 tomorrow.

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Thanks Kelsey & Falstaff! The Schizo switch on the Metro really makes this a very versatile amp. I have to say I was pretty impressed with Angela Hurt's vocals. She's got a duet in Nashville that's probably going to make it. Checking to see if we can get a session with them.

BTW, Falstaff... that avatar... BOC. What a trip!!!!!!!!! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

sweet playing and tone .. i am not a country fan, per se .. but since i've been tele-GASsin' i am really starting to dig the amazing quality of singing/songwriting/chops/ and tone

thanks for sharing and best of luck shopping it

cheers

ps - i wore a hole in my vinyl album of 'on your feet or on your knees' .. buck's boogie - last days of may - cities on flame .. what a fun record!! ... "thanks for this whip. i'll cherish it forever"

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Hey tone4days! I'm pretty new to Tele-ville myself. The MIM Tele is a great buy. Very resonant guitar. Got the pickups and saddles from Lew (on this forum). A Tele can give clean and overdriven tones like no other, and they sound great with a fuzz... something like a Soulbender especially will get early Zep tones through a good tube amp. This MIM Tele cost $539.00, which I thought was pretty amazing!

absolutely - of course, after unloading the cash for a bogner, that's about all any working man would have left :D

i checked out the bogner site for clips and specs and a few dealer sites for prices, as i am pretty unfamiliar with their line ... all i can say is WOW ! what tone ! ... that metropolis seems designed especially for a tele ... whether clean, gritty, or crunchy it seemed to sound just perfect ... do you have a feel for how the metropolis would do at approximating a larry carlton / robben ford overdriven-fusion sound sound? ... what about the metropolis 15?

cheers

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

hmmmmmmmmmmm.... Larry Carlton & Robben Ford. I'm not real into those guys... super players for sure, but haven't spent much time in that part of the neighborhood. I would think that Schizo 5 would get you pointed in the right direction as it has somewhat of a Plexi-Vox type of tone. Its warm, smooth, and like all the Metro settings, it has an airy type of bloom.

I haven't played a 15 watt Metro. Probably great as well.

Interesting point: The Metro doesn't like overdrive pedals. I have tried the Tubescreamer (Maxon OD9 actually), and the Fulltone FD2, and they just don't work well with it.... too bright and "clicky" sounding with the attack being overly accentuated. The Metro loves fuzz. Kendrick, Fulltone, Zvex, you name it. I have heard that the Crowther Hotcake was designed especially for the AC30 class A type of amp, but haven't actually used one. BTW, I did the last 2 Metro mp3s on the Bogner website.

godspeed!

Randy

yup yup - heard 'em ... loved 'em ... you got me thinkin' 'bout investigating that whole area of boutique amps ... in a perfect world i'd be able to get one of the metros for tele-spankin' and a dumble for the real california fusion thing

cheers

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Stevo: Thanks for the word! We're looking forward to another session soon, so maybe some more mp3s. Its always a pleasure!

Tone4days: There's bound to be a Bogner dealer up in your area. Check 'em out. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Metro 15 if you play one. Re. the Dumble tone: Have you ever thought about getting one of the Fuchs amps, or a Fuch modded Fender? I played one, and thought it was excellent.

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Thanks for the good word! That one's more of a straight ahead pop tune, not too much of a country pop song. Then again, I've learned that you can never tell what someone else may be hearing in a song. I thought the Tele/Metro combination was really cool.... crunchy but with an airy type of ring.

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

it's got "the hook" i'll tell ya that!

Yeah it sounds sweet with the Tele, but what doesn't sound good with a tele? :)

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

I'll listen to them tonight. I usually post at work. I have no speakers on this computer, which is why I don't spend much time here. Lookin forward to hearing it later, when I get home.

I've been really surprised at how versatile it is. Twang on demand, but pretty rockin' with a good fuzz like a soulbender.

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

for some reason i haven't been able to play them, i will keep trying cause i really want to hear that tele

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

They all sounded great as far as sound quality and "tone" goes.

For the first four, "Handy Man", Table for One", and "You Need a Woman", all seemed to lack something . . . probably, "the hook", as Thurisarz eluded to.

"Nothing I can do with my Heart" however, had "it". Great tune, but definitely didn't strike me as "country". Definitely "pop" - but great pop. (I love pop.) ;)

"How does it Feel" was the other "hit". My favorite of the bunch, to be honest. I love the guitar solo's on that. Just a great rockin' song.

The others were "ok", but I'm not sure I'ld listen to them again. Although, "New Shoes" has definite potential. Just can't quite put my finger on what. Its almost as if "How Does it Feel" was the song "New Shoes" was trying to be. Know what I mean? ;)

Anyway, lest you think I'm being too critical - its all far beyond my own level of talent. Good tunes all around. :)

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

Hey Artie, thanks for the word. Pitching some tunes to the country pop crowd is different now than it used to be. Country pop can mean anything from country to something that sounds like The Eagles. Listening to Keith Urban and Tobey Keith was quite a revelation. Urban was using 4 Matchless combos and a Marshall for lead (that's country?), and Tobey Keith live sounded like ZZ Top circa 1975 or so... very much a boogie rock thing goin' on with a country-type vocal sound. The leads were just straight ahead ZZ-ish stuff with a definite Les Paul/Marshall inflection. Kind of interesting. I think the yuppy generation kind of mellowed a bit and moved over to thee country-pop side of things. I like it. Seems like a lot of things on KIX 106 here are pop tunes with country embellishments, like a pedal steel, fiddle, something like that. I have learned that I can't ever second guess what someone else hears in a tune. If they like it, great, it must be a great song.

Re: new mp3s: Bogner & Tele

I love it!

Ill be listening to these songs along with my everyday listenings which include many a famous group...because quite simply this stuff is the same calibre and better!

These are full of mojo man, and such cool vibes!

Once again, i love it!
