New MXR Pedal

So this is a new pedal from MXR called the Super Badass Distortion and if it takes after it's other Badass Brethren, then it's definitely a force to be reckoned with. I like the demos that's they've released for it, and when it hits the shelves, i hope to be able to try one out at least.

http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m173-classic-108-fuzz Fuzz Face style with a buffer switch
http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m103-blue-box-octave-fuzz Octave down fuzz
http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m104-distortion Randy Rhoads' favorite
http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m115-distortion-iii A good all around pedal
http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m78-custom-badass-78-distortion My favorite and the one that took the place of my Tubescreamer
http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m116-fullbore-metal The name says it all I used this when I thought more gain was everything

And then there's the new one. I don't know where to put it as I haven't tried it yet, so when I do I'll update this list.

That list is also not counting the overdrives or the signature pedals, none of which I have tried.

Needless to say MXR makes some good ****.

Re: New MXR Pedal

Sounds good as long as you keep those mids at 1 ish or less. Sounds like cardboard otherwise.

Re: New MXR Pedal

i've played it. i thought it fit in between the 78 badass distortion and the fullbore metal. I actually thought it was just a better sounding fullbore metal, with fuller lows and mids.

Interesting, thanks for the alert.

I will have to check this out, though I am still leaning towards the Distortion III.

Re: New MXR Pedal

Never been an MXR fan. Then again, I'm used to biased from the Distortion+ back in the day. Still, seems they are making a LOT of different boxes. Just wondering if they are all that different or that good. I have seen a lot of love for a couple.

You may want to check out my distortion thread; I just did a shootout between the Disortion+, Distortion III and '78 at Ludlow Guitars but an hour ago...

I love my 78. It's got a perfect amount of character and gain for my style, which is mainly rhythm with a little bit of lead.

I am not knocking the 78 at all; it just didn't fill my needs. The 78 is definitely MXR's take on the 'boutique' type of pedal; very responsive, very dynamic, wide range of tones. It's just that I don't need anything like that! :)

Re: New MXR Pedal

i liked the 78 for a minute, then i a/b'd it against a few other pedals. it just sounds too scopped in the mids for me. for the price it's hard to beat, but there are other pedals out there i like a lot more.

Re: New MXR Pedal

Still... these new pedal looks very good! I would like to try out someday.
I read a blog at Dunlop's page that spoke about how it can play just about any type of music.

I get ya. Yeah it's definitely for a certain type of sounds, but what it does, it does well.
