Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

I really like my Boss RT20.
It's not really a dead nuts rotary/univibe, but it has a ton of features, sounds great, can take an expression pedal, and most important (to me), has a blend feature.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

I can't view the video here, is it a "real" Univibe? I actually like my older silver Dunlop Univibe, almost as much as the Dave Fox (Foxrox) one. I think at this point I'd be looking at a Drybell, true Univibe circuit and tone with the smaller footprint.

I'll check out this video when I get home.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

The new Dunlop Vibe doesn't have the true Univibe circuit, no LDR's in it.

There are many ways to generate an LFO. LDRs are really not required for a univibe, the signature sound is really mostly about the four differing capacitor values in the phase stages.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

From what I've heard this is the same as the Hendrix model that was released a year or two ago.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

These ones are worth trying too, I think you have to order direct (from Croatia) though.

I hope not because that pedal is horrible. Right now my modified phase 90 is giving me my woodstock national anthem swirls but I've had my eye on this new MXR to see if it's a good replacement.

Oxvibe is my vibe of choice... Simple and the deepest thickest vibe I've heard. Also doesn't thin out with fuzz or drive in front.

+1

If you don't want to spend that much, the Fulltone Deja Vibe 2 is a good deal (and it looks really nice in the new black)

I like the old one with the separate switch, but the new one sucks. With the switch being built-in, it's really easy to turn it off by accident when sweeping the pedal back for some slow warble.

You're thinking of the Mini Deja Vibe. I was talking about the one not in a wah type enclosure.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

Maybe there's some confusion regarding Fulltone model numbers & names... The basic Deja Vibe (MDV-1) comes in a rectangular enclosure with no expression pedal; I've seen unpainted, beige, white, and now black enclosures. The Deja Vibe 2 (MDV-2) has an integrated treadle and shipped in two versions; a black one with separate switch and 110V power plug, and a newer white one with integrated treadle / switch & 9V power socket. The MDV-2 has been discontinued & was replaced by the Mini Deja Vibe 3 (MDV-3) which keeps the small enclosure & 9V power of the late MDV-2, but has a separate on/off switch and blue paint.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

Yeah I got them mixed up too. I was referring to the MDV-1, and you were referring to the MDV-3.

I like them both, but I love my Vibe Machine. It's such a killer unit.

Re: New MXR UniVibe - i like this one.

I've yet to try a MDV-3, but it sounds like it may be the best of both worlds. My favorite of the ones I have tried is the old style MDV-2 in the large enclosure w/ separate on/off switch.

Out of curiosity, what do Vibe Machines run, and can they be used with an expression pedal? I'm potentially in the market for a vibe (don't currently have one), and exp control is a deal-breaker for me.

Yeah, it takes an expression pedal. It also has a cool mode selectable by an internal jumper where if you use the expression pedal it will ramp up or down to the new speed like a Leslie.

IIRC they're $325 including shipping from Croatia.

I have a SweetSound Mojo Vibe that I love, you can use an expresson pedal or even a volume pedal with an insert cable to control the speed if you want, and it has and internal vintage/modern switch, the modern setting brings in a buffer of some sort that makes it brighter, I like the vintage setting myself. Speaking of Phase 90's though, I found that the MXR Handwired Phase 45 Custom Shop pedal gets even closer to a vibe sound than a Phase 90, I was really surprised at that. Hooked it up with a Fuzz Face and a Wah and got convincing Hendrix/Trower vibe sounds out of it.

My modded 90 does a good job, there's just a little warble behind the univibe sound that I'm missing when I kick on my phaser.
