New old modded guitar ready?

A little while ago I took my Jackson as a little project. Quite beat up and I was unsatisfied with it. I sanded off the thick finish, bought new saddles to the bridge, put its original pickups back (just to try if they sound better now) but now screwed into wood instead of using pickup rings, changed pots and some little stuff. Today I set up the bridge, raised the action a bit from what I´m usually used to and voila. Sounds a lot fuller, a lot better. I like it, it feels like reborn. I always get amazed about how those little things can do so much. These pups may stay.

The wood is Indian cedro. Pic won´t tell much but it looks cool in natural finish.

The natural look and that clean, very nice!

Re: New old modded guitar ready?

I love Cedro guitars. It's like Mahogany that went on a diet, or something... PLus everybody wants Mahogany, and all the really light stuff is gone (or $$$$$$$$$$) but you can get Cedro pretty easily.
Your guitar looks really nice, great job!

Very nice, looks like it could've come in a natural finish from the factory! What did you use to strip the finish? Did you go at it with just sandpaper?

Re: New old modded guitar ready?

Metalman, I used a sanding machine with low speed and after that different sandpapers. Afterwards I thought that maybe paint stripper would have done this faster..

Crusty, it´s due to a crack in the headstock couple years ago (which maybe could have been fixed). I had to drill a new tuner hole.

I´m hoping that one day I´d find another neck for this, the profile is quite flat and thin although I can live with that.

Nice. I got a 7-string from a forum bro and a buddy of mine has the same one, sanded the finish off his and it looks fantastic. You've given me some more inspiration!

Thanks, you bastard.

Re: New old modded guitar ready?

Cheers Metalman.

I wasn´t sure if it would handle the pressure and tension of the tuner once glued back on. Well yeah, I should have tried it but back then it was the frustration and too much hurrying. It will get another neck someday.

Dunno about that, but from what I've heard, glued *necks* get the distinction of being harder than their unbroken counterparts.
