New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

Re: New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

They had been advertising the Power Slide for over 2 years- good to see it is finally real. BTW, Steve Howe used a lot of lap steel when I saw Yes this past weekend.

What gave you the idea that people here don't know the difference between the two?

Gearjones posting about a lap steel? Everyone else talking about a lap steel? Me posting a clip of Ben Harper playing a lap steel, John Paul Jones playing a extended ranged double neck console lap steel, or Robert Randolph playing a pedal steel?

Another big swing and a miss.

Isnt there a dude name Junior wells or something that rocks a slide? Seen him in GP mag

Junior Brown, I've seen Ronnie Montrose and Sammy Hagar play some badass lap steel.

Thanks for the great demo Gearjoneser, nice job.

You're right lap slide in for Hawaiian music ONLY and only terrible bands use lap steels in rock music. See examples A and B.

Additionally pedal steels only work in country music. Take a look... such an abomination.

And your right the lap steel is a total gimmick and I expect it to die out any day now. I'm surprised it has lasted this long especially because it was the first commercially successful electric guitar. Its a relic and it is time for it to go away! It has no place in modern music!

I was going to rip into you for dissing a music ICON like Ben Harper, but then I saw your "sarcasm" comment at the bottom. :D

Ben Harper is awesome! Apparently him, John Paul Jones, and ?uestlove did a 25 minute rendition of "Dazed and Confused" at Bonnaroo. I bet that would have been something to see.

Re: New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

I've had a couple nice lap steels, and incorporated them into a blues rock band context. My favorite was a Chandler with the very rare amber plastic fretboard. I also had a vintage 'White Lap Steel' produced by Fender's plant manager Forrest White. I sold both of them when I needed quick cash.

I wouldn't mind having the white colored Power Slide. It looks like a fun instrument.

John Paul Jones is one of my absolute favourite human beings.

Re: New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

It's a bit of an odd looking thing, bit to far out for me.
Also, they may be only $200 in the states but they're £230 over here... which is the thick end of $400... so not so cheap.

Re: New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

It looks odd because it is built to be turned polepieces-to-heaven and rest against your belly so it can be played flat (like a table mounted steel guitar) while standing up.

Come on, guys. Use your noodle just a little bit.

Or were you talking about the hugely gaudy color / finishing?
