New Pelham Blue Day

I've been digging the Sam Ash run of Pelham Blue SG's, but held off because I have a total love-hate thing going on with SG's and have gone through a bunch of them. In fact, I sold a 61RI recently (to Bruce Kulick, that was cool) and wasn't expecting to get another anytime soon, I had been Explorer shopping.

But I was in Sam Ash today and this caught my eye. I played on it a bit and I really like it (for now, LOL). I was bummed they would not deal at all on it. Its listed in their book as one of a few models that corporate doesn't allow them to deal on because its a special run and they know they will seel them. So this is one of the rare times I bought new, and paid full price. I never do that. I usually only buy uysed or new if I get a killer deal. So I guess I better hold onto this one a while, o at least until Sam Ash runs out of them and they stand a chance of holding their value a bit. Sales guy said they were supposed to be limited to 200-300 produced, and that the computer showed there were still 100 available. They had two in the store I was at and one gold also.

I was also thinking about the Jeff Tweedy 50th that's just come out because it has the Lyre and the smaller pickguard, but it has a Curacao de negro fingerboard and is a blue mist color and not pelham, its also $300 more.

Looks good, but you've got to get it off that tiled floor - do you know how hard it is to get blue streaks off ceramic?

Re: New Pelham Blue Day

Gorgeous !!!

Side note, did Bruce deal himself or have a tech do it?? thats cool!

Re: New Pelham Blue Day

Those Sam Ash pelham blue and gold SG's are some of the coolest Gibsons to come out in awhile. I've never found it so hard to choose between two colors, because I love them both.

As much as I like them, I'm staying on my SG Diablo......and auditioning pickups just to wonder if the stock BB 1/2 wasn't the best to begin with.

thats cool! I guess in so cal, star sightings arent so rare... I tend to forget that the "big guys" build their collections buying vintage and used gear too. I just envision them getting new axes from sponsors all the time.. Thanks for sharing the picture!

Man, Metlking has me LOVING blue axes and this one isnt helping me GAS... great score again!

Re: New Pelham Blue Day

I'm really glad to see Gibson issuing some guitars in something other than the same old bursts, ebony and cherry red you see every other (insert any Gibson model here) in.

Re: New Pelham Blue Day

looks cool. kinda weird you off-loaded an older and got a newer, but I don't know the full story.

is this the counterpart to the gaudy all-gold one? I like that one, even though it's over the top bling.

Re: New Pelham Blue Day

Nom nom nom. Nice score!!

So what's wrong with SGs that you end up loving/hating them?
