I've never understood the 490/498 set, they always sounded like ass to me. I'm sure you've found some sets that are pretty consistent in your SGs. I was always surprised by how well the Classic '57s sounded in SGs (the set in my old SG Custom was really good).

57's do sound good, but I'm looking for hotter/fatter in the bridge this time. I can find neck pickups easy enough that work in SG's, but I have a hard time finding a bridge that I like.

I'd like to give a C8 a try, but since I want covered and wax potted, not sure I want to deal with the messy pain in the a$$ of magnet swapping a potted cover. Wish I could just buy one. I still might try that, but a C5 doesn't sound bad either.

Honestly, I'd love to put a SuperD / Air Classic set in it, but the problem becomes covers.

I'm Love/Hate with SG's as well but that Pelham Blue with 50's neck makes my undies feel tighter than they should be.
