New position on 3 way switch

On my 3 switch it has the common

1. Bridge
2. both humbuckers
3. Neck

setup, but instead of having both buckers on, is there a way i can wire it so the middle position is one of the coils from the neck? The switch has 12 terminals and the extra wires from the pickups are soldered to some of those terminals.

If you guys could give me advise on how to wire that position it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New position on 3 way switch

Ah, 12 terminals. You have a three way, 4 pole switch in that case. You can do pretty much any setup you want with that. I'll do a diagram in the meantime for what you want.

Re: New position on 3 way switch

Well, here we go. It should be pretty self explanatory. I haven't drawn the green wires from the pickups, because they already go to ground and don't need to be moved. If the diagram appears fuzzy, zoom in, and it should clear up. Also, note one thing - Position 1 translates to the switch pointing towards the bridge... so those position numbers are correct.

Note. I'm 99% sure that Ibanez uses the same colour scheme as DiMarzio, which are the colours I've used for this diagram. However, ibanez.com is down, so I can't check their stock diagrams to make sure. If you don't want to go ahead, maybe another forumite knows what colour cheme Ibanez uses...

Re: New position on 3 way switch

Thanks man, I'll try to decifer that diagram. lol

...Actually i think i get it now,
thanks again

but the switch is in 3x4 so that might be a little tricky

Here's a diagram i saved before ibanez went down, I'm also using an SD bridge pickup

Hmmm, if i removed the red & white pair, then take the green wire from the neck and soldered it there, would it then split the neck pickup?

Re: New position on 3 way switch

Ah, I assumed this was a regular toggle switch.

This is an interesting looking diagram. I had forgotten about the two volume pots (doh)... I'm so used to master tone and volume.

This switch looks interesting. Is it rotary or toggle? Also, what pups do you have? As you said, and as your sig says ( :smack: ), a duncan in the bridge. What's in the neck then?

Sorry for the confusion. Should have asked these questions myself.

Re: New position on 3 way switch

I have the stock ibanez in the neck, SD in the bridge.

its a 3 way toggle as you said.

Re: New position on 3 way switch

It *should* be possible... I'm just not familiar with these switch types. ArtieToo could probably help. I hope someone does, cause I'd like to know how these switches work :P At any rate, my apologies.

Re: New position on 3 way switch

Basically, that switch is just two "Alco-style" switches in one case:

So, apparently, you have both humbuckers on full, in the middle position, and one 'bucker full, with one coil of the other in either of the other two positions. I'm just guessing that from the fact that they have neck wires on opposite sides of the switch. (Same with the bridge.)

I think you can do what you want here, I just gotta look at that for a bit. ;)

Re: New position on 3 way switch

I'm fairly certain that if you take the connection shown with the blue arrow, and move it to the terminal shown with the green arrow, it'll do what you want. I think. :)
