New Project - Basswood Strat

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Nice guitar! I think because you chose not to go "pure" white and you have some nice texture showing you might want to consider not going with a pure black pick guard but choosing something that is more of "spot color" - almost not expected. Pure white and jet black have a nice contrast.....but when one or the other is not deep then sometimes better to choose another "matching" color that may highlight something you've allowed to come through by not going with straight white. What color is your neck and/or fretboard? Good luck....looking good so far!

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Do you get to keep the cracked one?

Because i bet its fine haha.

My guess is Warmoth will take it back and either repair it or sell it as is at a lower price. I've found some incredible deals through them over the years on stuff like this.

Warmoth asked me to send it back to them. They inspected it and offered a full refund or free replacement--I opted for them to make another one. :)

Good advice! The Pickguard is going to be slightly relic'd and have a small amount of finish on it--so not jet black when finished. :) Also, haven't decided on a white or black headstock yet--but it's a roasted maple neck with a dark Indian Rosewood board.

Looks awesome! Very nicely done!

Damn, that looks good. Outstanding job, there.

Oh, Jeebus, that's hot...

:D Mucho sweet!

Thank you all very much! I put the Charvel logo on because I love Charvels and it looks like one–some may find it cheesy but I did not want a nameless headstock. lol The Nitro paint job is amazing–shows just the right amount of wood without looking like primer paint. It is probably the best clean sounding guitar I've used, takes gain extremely well also.

Just a quick shoutout to the lil Screamin' Demon in the middle position...it is awesome! The guitar sounds like it has two neck pickups–I love the HHH configuration here!

Thanks again!

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

So the roasted neck is slightly darker than a standard maple neck?
does it come with some sort of sealer on it?
what does it feel like?
does it feel like a naked neck?
did you oil yours?

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the roasted next to an unroasted neck, but here are pics of the neck before and after the True Oil finish:

Edit: I apologize, totally different lighting in the before and after pics.

I would say the unfinished roasted neck it is quite a bit darker than unfinished maple–it has a nice crisp tan/brown look to it and feels amazing. From Warmoth it does not come with any sealer and does not require a finish for the warranty (does not require a finish according to Warmoth for both warranty and playing.) Before the oil it feels a little smoother than the unfinished maple necks I've owned, but with the oil it feels like any other oiled maple neck. I like to oil my necks and not leave them raw, but I would say the roasted would be an awesome feeling neck left raw.

The difference I notice is in the weight, the roasted is lighter. Basswood is a lighter wood and it has an all nitro paint job so the whole guitar feels light. I would say this one sounds best with clean/clean+chorus channels or with light crunch. The high gain stuff sounds great but my Walnut strat with a Dimebucker handles the high gain better. Over all, I am super thrilled with how the guitar turned out. And I highly recommend the Lil Screamin Demon for the Middle position of a HSH setup...it sounds awesome!

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

That's super hot. I REALLY like that! My first decent guitar was just like that-a white Strat (copy) with a black pickguard. I WANTED a Charvel, but couldn't afford one (not that they sold them where I lived anyway) White with black is a pretty rare combo and probably one of the best looking (IMO)
Ya did good!

Thank you very much! It took quite some time but was well worth it! And I agree, I think the White with Black is the best looking combo. Thanks again!
