Does your guitar have the "upgrade kit"? It provides some new hardware (mostly bridge screws), a new wiring harness, and a circuit that simulates a dimed tone control. With no tone stack in the circuit, a lot of folks (including Paul Smith) felt that there was too much treble.

Don't know about the 24 fretter but I think the neck McCarty pickup is the best humbucker I have ever heard in a 22 fret Mahog/Maple guitar. It also sounds awesome split.

I would say a JB/McCarty neck combo with the McCarty switching would sound awesome in your guitar.

Not sure who this is direct for, but ... That was the whole reason for the sweet switch, to much treble, as for the wiring, I like the old style and the old style rotary, the new stuff is preset on the PCB ... I wouldn't call it an upgrade necessarily ... heck add a tone knob and keep the sweet switch to boot (push pull), that's what I did, but it's all personal taste. The Santana models have a trim pot for similar loading of the signal.

I am surprised you don't find the McCarty neck too dark and you don't find the pickups weak when split? Many find the stock p'ups too dark for the McCarty, especially the neck. I am still debating the possibility of replacing both the pickups in my McCarty. It could be the style of music.
