What do you think of this ? After years of modelling amps that cover every amp you've ever heard of Roland produce a modeller that basically does one amp - a tweed Fender. My problem with Line 6 etc has been that, while they do a million things, none of them are that exceptional. If someone produced a modelling amp that did classic plexi tones from clean to full bore and did them perfectly I'd buy it like a shot. I'll reserve judgement on this amp until I've tried one but the demos are pretty good. Their promo blurb says that it reacts to pedals like a tube amp - I'd like to see them demo this because we all know how bad o/d pedals usually sound into a s/s modelling amp.

So what do think of this amp ? Would you buy a modelling amp that's basically a one trick pony ?

Re: New Roland Blues Cube

It's tempting, really. I think they should take a whack at a plexi too and I bet they can do it.
It's taken a while but pedals now can really deliver amp tones via tube emulating circuits. Sansamp was doing it and Lovepedal, Catalinbread and others have made a mint on it. Applying that technology to a class d amp and a set of guitar speakers seems like a no brainer, but businesses move at a sloth's pace. Finally Roland has bit into it and soon it'll be ubiquitous in GCs from many different companies. The stigma of solid state will never go away but this amp and amps like Quilter are for people who can walk the walk.

Re: New Roland Blues Cube

sounds cool! I'd have fun with that. so this is an updated blues cube from long ago?

I don't think pedals sound bad in front of modellers. I was just using my treble booster into my gsp 1101 this morning (68 marshall setting). worked just fine.

I'm not sure if you need amp for home use or for live gigs but for Plexi tones I haven't heard better than this:

Jump to 3:25 if you wanna hear plexi model. I have it and it sounds great, I also use tube screamer clone in front of it and I can get whole range of tones.

Re: New Roland Blues Cube

I've got a modeler (Vox Valvetronix AD50VT) and OD pedals work great with it. Never had an issue there. While it has several different amp choices, I use one a majority of the time anyway so a one trick modeler is OK by me. The Roland Cubes have always been one of the better ones to my ears. This is just another step up.

My thoughts exactly.

The Yamahas are great as well. Don't get me wrong, I love mine, but there's something about playing through big speakers that you begin to miss with them.
