New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

DiMarzio specs:

Series – 13.022 k
Split N – 7.423 k
Split S – 5.626 k

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Actually, those are the specs DiMarzio gave to our forum bro, Darth Phineas.

Mine specs out right at 13K in series and 7.14K + 5.76K split.

As for wire on the bobbins, one is pretty full, the other is probably 80-90% full (noticeable difference). Doesn't tell you a whole lot, though ;)

Thanks. I know the specs aren't really the be-all end-all on output and tone but it's a start.

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Yeah, being an alnico 8 Satriani pickup, along with the kinds of tones he's used in the past. I am little kid on christmas eve, guy with a hotel room on prom night, interested in how that thing is going to sound.

well, It leads to an educated guess that it is most likely a 42/43 combo.

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

After reading Darth's review I'm kind of curious on these as well.
I really do need at least one all-alnico loaded and more medium-output guitar.
I have a MoJoe that might well make a good neck-pup to go with the Satchur8 in the bridge.

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Where did you find those specs, I've been crawling all over the DiMarzio site.

I just read the review. Seems like a good pickup worth trying. Incidentally the specs don't look like anything Dimarzio publishes, those are probably numbers Darth read directly from the pickup.

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Can you tell us where your ordered this Sathur8

The only ones currently at market are the first-run "Magnetar" branded ones. Same exact pickup as the "Satchur8", just without the revamped name. Do a google search and you'll find a couple vendors with stock...

Yes, my mistake. Those numbers I quoted originally were from Darth's own pickup. DiMarzio provided him with the following:

T – 4.5
M – 6.5
B – 6.0
Output – 375 mV
Magnet – Alnico 8

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

BTW...this was just posted on the Ibanez forums a few hours ago. See the pickup in action on the brand new JS2480!

And, no, that's not me in the video... :)

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Good playing but way too many fx. Couldn't hear the tone of the guitar at all

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

I loved the tone Satch got in the video demoing the pickup but you never know how much of that is Satch and the processing/production. Would love to try one myself.

What video was this? I haven't seen any Satchur8 videos yet.

Cool thanks , I saw a few of those on Ebay

Re: New Satriani Pickup...the "Satchur8"!

Wah on everything, yuck!

Well, only a dedicated Satch fan is going to buy a JS2480 at full price! What did you expect?

EDIT: That same guy said he'd be posting more videos showing other styles soon

Interestingly, he also said he didn't notice a big change to the new pickup compared to Satriani's older models. Then again, under all those effects, I'm pretty sure an EMG 81 would sound similar...ha ha!
