New Schaller Bridge Inserts

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help, I changed the bridge bushings on my les paul style guitar a few months ago.....I replaced the bridge bushings as it was a Schaller 455 bridge and the bridge posts would not fit the original bushing..

I wasnt aware that Schaller Bridge Bushings are slightly smaller in diameter then the stock bushing, so when I put them in it could be pulled out if you tugged on them...

I know now that its best to redowel the holes and redrill post holes, however I glued them in using superglue that was put around the outside of the bushing and then push fitted into the whole when the glue was still wet...

Ive got no problem with this as I do not want to change the bridge in the future and I got the correct angle for the posts....

What im worried about is if the superglue will be strong enough in time to come....

Has anyone done this and does anyone know if superglue is ok....

Rgds

Re: New Schaller Bridge Inserts

The main issue is that cyanoacrylates arent particularly good gap fillers, and the insert of a bridge bushing is one of the last places where you want any sort of gap.

Depending on the exact fit, it may actually work fine, at least for a while. But doweling and redrilling is most definitely the safest from a long term perspective.

What would you suggest, I took it to a luthier and he told me it should be fine as the strings hold the bridge in place due to the string angle / tension and the glue is a bonus....

Do you think I should leave it as it is?

When I first put them in, i could lift the guitar of the floor by holding the bridge posts and could tug on the bridge as hard as I could and it doesnt budge.

Re: New Schaller Bridge Inserts

Sorry, but I can´t really say anything more exact without actually seeing the repair. All I know for sure is that there are 2 smaller bushings glued into larger holes with superglue, and that´s not enough to make a sound diagnosis other than "it may not work so well for so long" ;)
