New Stuff Rocks! When you can use it...

Well, a week ago I decided that it would be a good idea to use the money my band made selling T-shirts on a wah-wah pedal. The other guys agreed so I searched on Ebay and found one, a nice Vox V847 in near-mint conditions, no noticeable damage or anything. Won it for 60 dollars with shipping, and I've been waiting all week for it. So it finally comes today, and in all my excitement about getting the pedal I completely forgot I needed to get a 9V battery for it :smack:

So now I have my shiny new wah-wah pedal and can't use it till tomorrow when I can go pick up some batteries. Getting new stuff rocks, but it'd rock more if I could use it :fingersx: But when tomorrow rolls around I'll have some new batteries in that thing and I'll be running through Voodoo Child, White Room, Tales of Brave Ulysses, and a bunch of wah'ed Thin Lizzy solos all day long.

Bad Reputation is a must. And the Cream songs you listed. Also Prowler by Maiden.

What sucks more is when you buy gear, and have to reinstall your whole damn OS on your computer because your stupid MIDI keyboard for some reason won't work, yet works perfectly on a friends computer. That sucks, not a battery problem! :)

Go forth, young man, & conquer!!! :headbang:

It's extremely refreshing to see a guy your age EVEN KNOWING those songs, never mind playing them.

Who said rock & roll is dead ???? :beerchug:

I allways forgot to buy some batteries ,or any power supply. But hey,we all learn.
That's great bro ,wah is a great effect if you use it well ,and i think your music is a great field to trying it and finding nice new textures.

Yeap!

People think that this generation (corbic, gunny47, myself) aren't supposed to know these songs. It's funny sometimes :)

My dad every now and then walks into my room and says: "what are these songs you're listening to??? (having Cream on..) Don't you have any real songs of YOUR time which are any good?"

I look at him and smile, then he tells me: "put 'roadhouse blues' on" and walks away singing! :laugh2:

btw corbic, It looks like you are getting along very nice with the whole guitar playing thing. How is the band going? Did you guys get a lead vocalist yet?

Well, todays update on the wah-wah pedal...

So good!!! I can't get enough of it! The first thing I did when I got home after getting batteries (and going sledding, but thats a different story), was hook in my Strat and start ripping away at Voodoo Child. I think I was playing that one for about 20 minutes before I realized how long I'd been playing for!

Tales of Brave Ulysses came flowing out of the amp almost immediately after Voodoo Child ended, and I think this will be the next song my band is learning. From there I tried doing some songs where I'd have to switch the wah on and off, so I tried Thin Lizzy's version of Rosalie and Don't Believe a Word, which were both fantastic. It's easy to switch the wah on and off, almost seemless.

Through some experimentation I figured out a lot of stuff the wah can do. I tried the Michael Schenker technique of setting to wah to various points to get different tones, and the boosts I get in the different frequencies can get a lot of different tones I'd heard before but could never figure out how.

And finally, the last thing I did before I had to stop playing 'cause it was too late to play my V32 in my apartment complex, I had to try some funk style wah. I had so much fun playing around with the wah, and I'm going to have to learn a lot more songs with wah in them. And maybe start writing a few of my own with it.

The band is going really well! We haven't had a show in a bit, but we're getting building permits to have a show at our school with a few other bands, and we're going to be playing at a few other places in April. We've started writing original songs, which are coming out pretty well according to a few friends who come to our practices to listen. And since we couldn't find a lead singer, I've had to take a cue from Gary Moore and do what needs to be done...I've stepped up and have become our bands lead singer. My voice isn't fantastic, but its not bad either, and my range, according to a friend of mine who sings incredibly, is very large, going very low into lower bass note ranges all the way into lower soprano range. So things are going very well for the band, and for better or worse, we're having a lot of fun with the whole thing and hope it lasts for awhile.

:cool3: Next time, you could always take the batteries out of the smoke alarm. Who needs that anyway?

Being a service technician on fire systems, I cringe at that. :headache:
