New wah pedal for me!!!

Well, after owning a BUNCH of wah pedals over the years and being pretty much completely unhappy with ALL of them a year ago or so I started looking for a truly great wah pedal. There were only a few things that it HAD to do/be...

-It HAD to sound like all the old recordings I love so much...that menas it has to capture the old school Vox vibe

-It HAD to be true bypass just because wah pedals are the worst for killing off the high end

-It HAD to be able to be used with my various fuzz and germanium boost pedals...most wahs won't work before a fuzz pedal without a buffer inthe wah which is a real bummer for guys like me that love fuzz tones...

Well, after trying a butt load of wah pedals I landed on this...

If you haven't figured it out by now, it's a Teese/RMC Picture wah, and I have to be honest...IT'S AMAZING!!!

I tried several stock (and some modded) Dunlop and Vox wahs, I tried the BYOC wah, Fulltone, etc and all of them left me wanting something else. The only wah that I would still like to try is the Pro Analog Supa Quack but in all honesty they are way too much money IMO for a new wah pedal, they are still not useable with a fuzz peal w/o adding a buffter (another $50-$95!) and when I found out that Scotty at PA buys some of his parts from Geoffrey at RMC I decided to go with the RMC.

I was able to try several at one time...an RMC2, RMC3, Picture, Wizard and WOF...I'll be honest, all of them were crazy good but the Picture is the one that NAILED the tones I think about when I think about a wah pedal. It is truebypass and since 2006 all RMC wahs are fuzz friendly!!!

This is one of the best pedals I've bought in a long time!

If you;re lookign for a wah go NOW and try a Teese, you won't be sorry!

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

Wicked!

How's the low-end 'vocal' tone?! Most wah's are way too geared towards the treble end of the sweep and don't get the midrange/low end growl that I'm looking for... or if they do nail the tone the range is too limited to really work.

Thanks bro!

Well, as much as I hate to use a term that gets over used in the wah world Teese wahs (All of them!!!) are very vocal however the Picture is voiced just like an old Vox Clyde and those don't have a lot of bass...if you want a vintage(esq) wah with an extended (very vocal) sweep...more lows and a smooth treble, slightly more gain and a wah that works well with both buckers and singles, sounds great clean (fery "shaft" with a Strat) and will cut through even the most wicked of crunch tones get a Teese Wizard Wah!!! Trust me, it's a killer wah!

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

If I did not have my own old Jen wah/fuzz, I would get one of those, or the Area51 wahs...
But that old wah of mine...it just has that old sound I like!
My wahmad mate has a Teese as well, plus some vintage gems, and some boutique stuff he does not like all that much, but his Teese and old ones are his faves!
Love the colour!

The blue is cool...it looks much cooler in person that in pics

I've tried a few older wahs (the ones I liked I couldn't afford and the ones I coudl afford I didn't like!) but the Teese is the real deal! I listened to several of the Area 51 clips and talked with them quite a bit but in the end they just didn;t have the "it" factor I was looking for...in fact those Area 51 wahs seem to me to be a lot like the slightly later Vox wahs, that said I might take the plunge on an Area 51 kit for my Vox reissue...it sure won't get any use now!!

I know you're not much of a wah user but how's the Jen Wah/Fuzz???

I tried a Colorsound wah/fuzz once that was GREAT!!! Different (very different) but great!

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

Ah the Jen...well it is at the brighter end of wahs...but it has that sweet mid breaking up crispy bisquit sound.
Electric Ladyland is another good way of saying how it sounds!
:D
Got it from my mate along time ago!
Recently put it back into action...our new wah at CM has one setting that sorta mimics this wah.
Dunno it has turned me into a wah user, I just love that old thing!

Hmmm... that kinda sounds like "it" for me. Best I've found that I could justify the cost of is the old Dunlop Hendrix wah. Had one from almost 10 years ago until it got lost during a move...

Actually. I think it was most likely nicked... but still... I dug that thing more then my Crybaby.

I actually don't mind losing a bit of top-end...but yeah, some of these things are just complete tone suckers!

...a CM wah huh...maybe I'll be getting more wahs soon!!!

Good thing it's seeing use now, it'd be a shame to let a cool old piece like that just sit!

The Wizard is a cross between the RMC1 (which is a real hot rod wah but is only good for single coil players) and a Picture (vintage voiced but works well with buckers and singles...the Wiz is great for a modern/vintage tone. It has a smooth sweep (but can get growley as hell under crunch) and it's also a wide sweep...lots of bass on the toe up end and a nice bite on the toe down end but never harsh (even with a Telecaster!). It's got a greeat vocal quality to it, no outside controls (which I like a lot) and is fuzz friendly for fuzz heads such as myself...I really dug it and they aren't too much bread for what you get IMO...

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

Looks like this!
The boss was going mad with controls...I just wish that it had two settings,
you can switch between fat and more bright...

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

Cool, I just ordered an RMC2 from analogman. I figured that was the one to go for because I could dial in a lot of different sounds. How is one wah good for single coils, while another is better suited to humbuckers? What is the deciding characteristic that makes them better suited for certain pickups?

I tried the 2 as well, you're in for a GREAT wah pedal!

The RMC1 is tuned to have a lot more lows and more gain than a lot of other wahs out there so with buckers it tends to get muddy, Geoff could give you a better answer but thats more or less the deal with the RMC1.

The RMC 2 was great and offered a lot of sounds, the catch is that I just wanted one sound! I will ay this, the RMC2 is pretty easy to use, all the controls are on the outside and I found them all to be pretty useful depending on what kind of sound you are looking for.

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

I got a Wizard wah and it's really cool.... The solo's in Enter Sandman and Sweet Child never sounded so good... it retains loads of clarity. I also got an Italian vintage wah kit from area 51... I think this is a great sound too.. I think it would be very similar to the picture wah. Both come highly recommended... I love to Wah... wah... wah wah.. wah wah wah wah now!

The Wiz was a very cool wah but it didn't have that narrow sweeo that I was looking for like an old Vox. The A51 sound clips I heard were pretty good but I couldn't try before dropping coin on it so I went RMC...I still might do the A51 drop in kit in my Vox...who knows, what I do know is that this Teese just kills!

Excellent, thats great that you like it so much, I don't think you can go wrong with a Tease wah... I was lucky and got the Wizaed second hand and saved quite a bit. The Sh!t dunlop was doing nothing so I thought I'd try the drop in kit from Area51 and quite frankly I was amazed. The good thing for me is that they are both different... and when you use both together it's a really thick and deep sound. I never used to be bothered about the Wah effect and wondered what all the fuss was about... now I know too! ;)

You're right, you can't go wrong if you go Teese!!!
Like I said above I tried 5 Teese wahs out today, all back to back...in fact I had them all hooked up together so I could go from one to the other w/o unpluging! ALL 5 of the ones I tried (I didn't bother with an RMC1 since I use buckers a bit) sounded great, it just depended on what sound you were looking for!

Ooooo...

What's with the switches? I see two, what, 3-postion switches? What's the big knob about?!?

Re: New wah pedal for me!!!

Ah the knob is the Qs setting, and the smaller switches is going from total fat wooly to mosquito stings....it is alittle extreme in some settings....but then again people seems to like that?!

Use it here, I think it is the brightsetting 3 and deep 1, and close to full Q...can back that one off alittle on real amps though.
Hmm also used our new chorus/vibrato here.
