newbie question about stack head

yesterday while jamming at the uni jam cellar, i was playing thru a ibanez tobe blaster head connected to a marshall 1936 2x12 cab .

when using the overdrive channel on the head, i hear some weird beeping noises. when playing, the output drowns the beeping. the beeping is only audible when i use overdrive channel. no beeping in clean channel.

what could be the reason to this beeping? how to stop it?

p/s: bear with me, i'm a newbie to the amp world.

Sounds like a problem on that specific channel of the head? The speakers are only going to generate what the amp supplies to the speakers,so it could be a bad diode in that channel, but it sounds like the amp needs some attention..

thanks STRATDELUXER97 on the feedback.
the beeping is of very constant frequency, as if pre-programmed or something. and its only with the crunch channel.thats the funny part. couldnt recognize anything wrong with the tone/sound of the output. how do u suggest it fixed?

Try to get the amp into a music store where a tech or at least a good musician with good ears can listen to the amp with you...It does sound like it's going to need to be repaired..Is the amp under warranty maybe? That would be great if it was!

Does tapping on the amp, moving speaker wires, controls etc...change or influence anything about that noise you hear? Does that amp have built in effects that can be bypassed to see if the noise goes away? I know you said it's the gain channel...See if anything you do,influences, lessens,or changes that noise you hear...

Re: newbie question about stack head

i tried banging on it real a few times (natural response). dint change a thing.
i did plug the axe right straight into the amp with a shielded planet waves cable without going thru any pedals. dint help too :blackeye:

thought it was an indication signal of some sort. the head doesnt belong to me (its uni property) but its what i use when playing with my mates. ok, i'll go see if i can get someone to get it checked out. better still , i hope they get it replaced with a marshall JCM :saeek:

One question i have.... Did you have any effects in front of the amp? I have a few DOD Digital FX's units that sound great thru the FX Loop on amps but if you try to run them into the front of the amp their is a beep beep beep noise........ But you can't hear it when the amp is on clean..

He stated that he plugged straight into the amp with a planet waves cable...

Re: newbie question about stack head

Opps.....

Once i had a noisy amp and started to plug it into a computer power bar with RF filters and it stopped what was interfering with it

No biggie brother, just bustin on ya! :laugh2: :13:

Re: newbie question about stack head

there could have been noisy RF equipment close by, a generator, transmittor or something..

like, when someone leaves their mobile on their amp, and gets a text..

'buh-buh-buh, buh-buh-buh, buuuuuuuuuuuuuh!' :laugh2:

Re: newbie question about stack head

It could be one of two things AFAIK. It could be what Imp said, that there is noisy equipment nearby that would cause interference, or it could be what SD97 said, in that it could just be a problem with the amp itself that needs to be looked at... Those Ibanez Tone Blaster heads are pretty cheap too, aren't they?

(How does it sound btw?)

Re: newbie question about stack head

well, i dun think its any magnetic/electrical interference cos the beeping is of very very constant frequency. and on clean channel, everything is perfectly quite. when i got calls on my phone, couldnt hear a noise too.

i have no idea how much it cost. dint buy it (belongs to uni).
on its sound , honestly speaking i dun have much experience on heads. IMHO, the cleans are ok. But on the overdrive channel i think it lacks the "bite" of a marshall or mesa.

dude, the axe in your avatar is an ibanez SZ520 rite? nearly bought that one in the same colour!!

lol yeah buddy the SZ520QM, in Blackberry I think it was. Good all around guitar eh? Only thing that bothers me now is the Medium frets.. but I've gotten used to them

Do you still have those IBZ stock pickups or did you switch those mofos out?

Re: newbie question about stack head

my friend has that head and the cab that goes with it. I think the problem might also be the fact that it's a solid state amp. a lot of distortion and high volume can cuase that noise. What guitar are you playing, and how much gain do you use?

i'm using a yamaha pacifica with a JB in the brigde. usually use abt 6 gain on the overdrive.
