Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

I really, really like the guitar and came close to getting one a little while back but chickened out.

Who's using one?

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

That 25" scale just doesn't feel right to me. I don't know maybe its not the scale but every PRS I have played just feels odd. & the odd thing is Cris' guitars are 25 and they feel great in my hands

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

Oh. I thought you bought it and had been gigging with it at one point...

I like the Mira more than some other higher dollar PRS, but I greatly dislike the 24 frets. I went with the Starla at the time because of that (and the scale length).

Good guitar for sure, just gotta find one that speaks to ya.

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

PRS are some of the most comfortable guitars I have ever played they just feel good especially for chord work I could just never get along with the tone of them. A lot of my friends who play gospel rave about PRS but i'm sure I just haven't found one I got along with all the way. Some of the prettiest guitars i've seen as well.

I had money down but really wanted to get the HD500 at the same time and since I was pretty tight at the time I just grabbed the HD. Still kind of kicking myself I didn't get that guitar it was really nice.

The scale doesn't bother me, I had that little SE One and it was a screamer and a breeze to play. The neck profiles can be a little odd just have to make sure I get the right one for me. I don't generally like 24 fret necks and that could be an issue I guess but the way it was laid out didn't seem to bother me like it does on other 24fret necks I've played.

Also got to make sure I stay way from the birds, those are so whacky. I still can't believe they play that up so much.

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

I tried out a model at a local store... it left much to be desired. it looks pretty... that's about it. the pickups are horrible.

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

If you get the chance to compare it with an NF3, then take it. I have a CU22 and a 513, but for me, the NF3 is the best PRS I've tried (though it was close run by a friends McCarty I borrowed for a while).

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

I've tried the Starla and I really, really liked that! :) I'd love to try a Mira as well..

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

You all are some weirdo's sometimes:banana:

I'm not looking for any other type of PRS's, don't particularly care for most of them, maybe they feel a little too refined for my tastes? I like the Mira, to me it is an upscale Dan Armstrong/Ampeg which I love and hate at the same time. It just works really well and it is really clean and unpretentious, obviously the Jr/Special of the line.

Pickups are subjective and easily changed out but I had no issues with the ones that were in the one I really liked, they were the PRS bass/treble pickups fwiw. I wouldn't know for sure until I ran them with the band a few times to see how they worked they're way in but pickups are never a deal breaker unless it is a vintage guitar or they are proprietary.

I like the simplicity and the openness of the feel and sound of the Mira. Only gripe really is the blade switch, I am thinking that might become a regular 3 way switch. Played one today but I can't stand the birds. You want birds go buy a fancy model.....

Something just like this would be perfect

Saw a great deal on a mira x on gear page today. I think $790? Dunno what the x represents but i do love the guitar in general.

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

I had a Mira and I liked it a lot. The biggest thing I didn't like was the 24 frets. To me the neck pickup doesn't sound right on a 24 fret guitar. My favorite PRS model is the McCarty. If your patient you can find used McCarty's at reasonable prices!

Re: Next up - thinking of finally getting a Mira

yes the X is an African basswood of some sorts, I have seen some that are obeche as well. 24.5" scale and 22 frets.

The X's are pretty cool too but I'm looking for mahogany.

Look, here's my take on the mira: they look FANTASTIC.

but the one I played... must have been a lemon.

Hey anything's possible. There aren't many PRS guitars I like and it is more than possible you played a dog, every company has made some even PRS.
