NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Did Ace say Marshall Content ?!?!?!?!?!?

That's right - New Father's Day Amp Day! The family got me some Marshall goodness for Father's day!!! I saw this - I mean "They" saw this in the local Sam Ash for a buck fifty. It was only played every other Sunday by a little old bass player who traded it for some bass gear upgrades. As such, the thing is in AWESOME shape!!!!!!!

The VS100R Valvestate 1x12 Combo!!!!!!! 12AX7 for tone, solid state output. 3 channels, clean, OD1, OD2. Tone shift switch on the clean for brightness, and a very cool contour knob on OD2. Separate Reverb for clean and OD Channels, parallel fx loop. 100 watts with a 25watt switch for indoor social use! Didn't come with a footswitch, but those are available all over the bay.

For me, this is the ULTIMATE Marshall (short of a JCM 900 SL-X). I can just NAIL every marshall sound I want with this thing!!!!!! OD1 for rock to AC/DC tones and of course, KISS ALIVE, OD2 For Everything after like KISS ALIVE II right up to serious shred and Megadeth/Metallica, early or late. This little thing ROARS!!!!!! What is awesome though, is the way the preamp tubes interacts with pickups. Hard to keep the clean channel clean with my Duncan Distortion. That's how it should be....

Don't these two just look so happy together?

My official word of the week will be "What?" :headbang:

Sweet! Glad you got a nice big amp worthy of your (probably) legendary rocking out skills.

I fully expect you to post some vids of you in a wig rocking out to cheezeball 80s cock rock.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Happy Father's Day and I'm glad that you are enjoying your new amp! Marshalls are more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and a lot more safe than a bag of vipers.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Congrats. Really is a great amp. One of the best Marshalls for modern saturated tones.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Great amp, great price, especially for the 100 watt version! Congrats

I didn't know they had a 25-watt switch, that's cool

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Marshall SS gear doesn't get enough love. I bought a tiny practice combo years ago and the only thing it needed was some shoring up. So I sunk about eight inch and a half deck screws in strategic places and man that killed any cab resonances and the little blighter just came to life. I gave it to a friend to use years ago. His JCM 800 is fixed now so I should steal it back!

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Cool score!
What speaker is in there?

Celestion Gold Back. 8ohm/100watt. That's the original. Working just fine for me. That said, might put something else in there one of these days.

Man - the OD2 channel. That thing is just SEERING!

The tube front on this thing is really interactive. After Marshall it became a trend and a lot of people just stuffed one in the chain in all sorts of lame ways. These Marshalls really got it right. I was going back/forth between my Distortion/JB yesterday evening, you can really hear/feel the difference in pickups.

I love me some valvestate goodness. Marshall really got it right with those, and that's a steal for a buck fiddy. Congrats!

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Great amp and even better Fathers Day gift, that LP looks right at home too.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Have you got a better pic of the front panel Ace? I'm curious to see what the did differently to my 8080.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

Great amp- that was my first "real" amp I bought new. What sold me on it, honestly- I played an Epiphone Ace Frehley Les Paul with Dimarzio Superdistortions in it- and on OD2 with the power dimension on it nailed Kiss Alive!

Best clean out of a Marshall I've heard.

After many years I got rid of it when I traded up towards a Marshall DSL 401 all tube amp- I lived the VS100 better.

Put a BBE Sonic Maximizer in the loop and you have Megadeth. Play a JB loaded Jackson in OD-2 and you have Master of Puppets.

OD-1 I couldn't jive with

Looks like they did switch it up a bit. Mine was one of the original range, but I think yours is a bit later. You got more power, an extra channel and the nice touch with the independent reverb settings. Mine is somewhat underused in its current role as a power amp for a POD XT, which it actually does rather well.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

ooh - POD in the FX loop as a "second amp" in parallel.... :naughty:

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

That is my beloved Duncan Distortion.

Other pickups I have ran through it include a JB8, and a Pearly Gates set. The PG set actually cleans up nice. Tough to do with the Distortion, especially on 25 watt mode!

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

What?! Only two pups in your guitar? What's up with that?

Well, at least it's got a Dist. in it.

Re: NFDAD (Marshall Content)

There's 4 pickups in that guitar - Each individual pickup is so puny it needs another to help it out. :p

Me loves some Jim Marshall action every so often. I sometimes wonder what I would now think of the old SS 30 Watt Combo I had. Its still alive, just with my nephew.
