NGD - 2017 LP Tribute

After the Trad GT didn't exactly work out I wasn't really looking for anything but I ran into this guitar last Sunday and just flat out fell in love with it. Reminded me of my '05 Faded Standard, so many similarities, apparently I dig honey-burst. Kind of a cross between the Gary Moore sig and my Standard. A bit to the bright side but it's still new and has the stock A2 490's in it. It is really clear and resonant sounding with an outstanding amount of sustain. It has a spectacular neck pickup sound, the bridge I'm not 100% on yet, I just keep tweaking and it's getting there. I usually dig A5 mag pickups so we'll see how that goes. I've still got to pay the Gibby tax, open the nut up for 10's and clean up the fret ends but otherwise flawless. 2-piece back in natural mahogany, it has the new polycarb cavity covers, quik-connect electronics, properly matched plastics, usable strap pins, the plating on all the metals is perfect and I really like the new Nashville bridge, it looks jewelry quality. It's basically just a nicely optioned Faded Studio but done really, really well at a great price point. Of course I ditched the guard, not a fan of them, wish they'd give you the option to install it yourself.

Oh yeah they've even gone as far as making the Vampire taps non-lethal!

Still need to do a proper setup, all I've done is play it all week.

Even though it is clearly a plaintop it has a very light flame to it that doesn't really show in the full face shot.
Best as I could get it to show with my cell, it has some beautiful light birds eye that goes across the top.

That is one nice looking guitar. I love the finish and look of it. I own a 2008 Gibson LP Studio that plays and sounds amazing so I feel your Gibson love.

Those look really clean. As for the cool tones, even cooler. I'd go speed knobs and call it done!

Could've been earlier than '15 I guess, that was the first time I noticed them.

Thanks guys this thing is every bit as nice as it looks.

By the way Scott, just throwing this out there, quietly...

get help...

Re: NGD - 2017 LP Tribute

what happened to the Trad Gt?
NICE !!! Grats

I returned it. There were a couple of things about it that once I lived with it I didn't really care for.. It was a beautiful guitar though.

I'm totally digging the **** out of this guitar. It's a little less precious, the neck is somewhere between my old Special and my Standard both of which I like, and it's just "right". It has that thing when you hold it you just know.

LOL!!!

Your description is right on.. I had one of the first runs of the Tributes (with the p90s) and it was nice having a new guitar, but wasnt so precious to fear playing it out or something.
The "2008" model I had was. Due to cost and all, I was almost afraid to play it.. Sold it pretty quick.

Re: NGD - 2017 LP Tribute

So seriously though I might have an.......issue. I almost bought 3 guitars the other day in one shot, still can't get any of them out of my head.

Re: NGD - 2017 LP Tribute

Very nice. I don't mind the plain top. I don't think they get enough love.

nice. enjoy.

be careful when you do your first string change on it. that metal stop piece can fall off unexpectedly on the guitar top if it's not tightened down.

Re: NGD - 2017 LP Tribute

My neighbor just got one of these as a gift from his grandfather... The kid has only been playing a few months, lucky him! Anyway, it was a stellar sounding guitar and I liked its light finish. If yours plays anything like his, congrats!!! I have never been a Les Paul guy per se, but I wouldn't mind owning one of these.

Re: NGD - 2017 LP Tribute

I have a 2013 70's Tribute and it's a great guitar for the money. I like the lighter burst finishes on the stripped down LP's. I think the lighter bursts go well with the overall minimalistic look. Your Tribute looks great! Enjoy.
