If the locking nut puts certain strings out of tune, just tune them off a bit to compensate before locking the nut, there's no magic in it and there's no need for the retainer.

Or you could use the micro tuners. :D

Well he did say the micro tuners lacked range as the nut put the strings too far out of tune.

Another option would also be to adjust the micro tuners beforehand to be able to compensate better with them. I've done that occasionally with my Jackson DK2. That brings to mind, that I actually like the JT580LP bridge, it's no OFR or Edge but it has always worked well enough for me.

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

It doesn't, but I have knocked it out of tune after I fine tuned it, and found that there was no more room. Once, though.

yeah then you unlock it, back the microtuner out, tune normally, lock and begin again.

Sometimes i think some of you kids are on drugs :18:

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

That's what I'm doing now. I would still like a retainer though, haha.

Have you seen the angle on you headstock?

I don't really understand how that will help you in the slightest? The retainer is used to make the string passage over the nut more flat but if you have angle after the nut it will already be like that.

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

Well if the guitar goes out of tune when the nut is locked, how does the retainer help at all with it?

What the retainer does is attempt to keep the strings flat as they go over the nut. If the strings aren't flat when you clamp down the tension will change and the guitar will become out of tune. Chances are the micro tuners will get you there but if they dont you may look at getting a retainer. But what i was saying that if you have an angled headstock then the strings will already be running flat so it's pretty much pointless.
