Ngd: Carvin st300

Re: Ngd: Carvin st300

Carvin guitars have a tremendous reputation online. However, every time I have played one, it's been a used one that I've found for sale in a store, and it's had something wrong with it -- the truss rod is broken, the truss rod nut is stripped, the action is a joke, the setup is unplayably bad, etc.

I have the feeling that a lot of this is not the guitars' fault, or Carvin's fault. So what's going on with these used Carvins? Are some dumb people scraping together the money, buying Carvins, messing them up through their own stupidity, then unloading them?

Even with all these messed-up examples I've seen, I've always thought that if it weren't for such and such problem, it would probably be a really top-notch, world-class guitar.

Jeez Kherman, killing us all as usual. As if that Explorer wasn't enough!

Sweet guitar, man. Just sweet, looks smooth enough it could play itself. How's the stock pickups? Can you reuse the covers if you get Duncans or something else?

Thanks, guys.

Jessie,
My white '02 DC727 did develop a truss rod issue.
I sent it back.
They looked it over and
built me the '05.
Fully covered under warranty.
No questions asked.

I've been playing Carvins since '89.
The build quality has always been
top notch.
My '89 STs are now 20 years old and going strong.

Couldn't tell you why the ones you're finding used are
having issues.
Maybe it is previous owner error.

Diego,
I haven't popped out the pickups on the ST to see if
the covers are soldered on or not.

I can tell you that since Carvin now offers the covers, they had to adjust the cavity route for them.
Which means they're a little larger route and should accommodate
other pickups much easier.
