I receiving this today. Right out of the box, it plays like a charm. Love the neck on this thing! Although I'm sure I don't have to tell that to you guys.

Nice, I didn’t realize they were still around.

Is that pearl white or kind of a mint? It looks really cool. When they added the recessed bridge routes I was kind of bummed, but I then I realized if I got one I could just throw a trem stropper in it.

It's pure white. I have a Tremol-no on the way.

What can you guys tell me about the 59/custom hybrid vs the JB?

If I were you, I'd send it back while you can. Had a tremol-no in my Charvel for a while. It's a cool idea but it does not do what it's supposed to do. The thumbscrews aren't strong enough to really lock the trem in place. They will slip. When they slip, they scratch and deform the shaft of the rod. A couple months (or years if you're lucky) of that and you end up with a trem that will never return to true because the unevenness of the rod scrapes the inside of the little block. Very annoying.

I've since gone back to just leaving the trem floating all the time, but wish I hasn't wasted my money.

They really don't sound anything like each other. IMO the Hybrid sounds a lot like a '59, just louder, less extreme highs & lows, and maybe a tiny bit more mids. That's in a LP, so I'm not sure how it would compare in a Strat.

A Tremol-no may not work all that well, but there are lots of stops that can be used (including a block of wood) to make a Floyd dive-only. I prefer mine that way over floating as it still lets you lower the pitch while being nearly as stable as fully blocked. The main reason I do it is to be able to switch from standard tuning to Drop-D without redoing the setup.

Yep. I've had my floyd dive only via a block and it worked fine (there's a change to sustain and overall sound of the guitar when you do this too). But all you need for that is a sliver of wood, not a hundred dollars worth of metal that doesn't work.

Re: NGD - Charvel So Cal

I have a trem stopper in one of my other guitars. But I thought I'd try the tremol-no so I have the option to do full floating at times.

Re: NGD - Charvel So Cal

The Hybrid sounds nothing like a JB to me. The JB is brasher and pretty much can only do sounds with at least some distortion. The JB is a very particular one trick pony, but it is the best trick if that is what you want. The Hybrid sounds great at every gain range, however. It also feels a lot more dynamic than a JB.

Dude, thats pretty clever! does it clatter at all tho?

Ledvedder, First of all, AWESOME guitar!! I love my charvels!! And, incidentally, I have a 59/custom 'brid in my white one. It is a great pickup! IMO, there is more warmth than a JB, (JBs are great in the right guitar and I have one in my 80s Kramer that kicks apples!) But the 59/custom has the soul of the 59, but fills in the mids and has a kick to it for harder stuff. Its a great pup that covers alot of ground.

As far as the tremelno. (sp?) Ive used wood blocks and several other methods. You can also go with a regular trem stop also. less complicated and no issues like mentioned above and simple installation.. My Kramer came with one. I had to take it out when I put a large block in tho.. Have fun!
