NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Mine are Chinese, I think the worn finish ones are Indonesian.

I like Epi but usually they need a fair amount of fretwork, no issue with these

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

I've got both the Pro and the worn finish and they both have very excellent fretwork. I have done fretwork on all my other Epis, but not these. The worn finish Wilshire is perhaps a bit better than the pro. The fret edge finish is as good if not better than any guitar I've ever owned (twice as good as any Gibson).

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Hmm I haven't had any luck yet with the Worn models. I think I freak a little when I can see how many pieces they actually make some of these things out of:34: I do want one with Mini's though but I am thinking going old school if I can swing it.

The fret ends on both of mine are perfect which is nice. I have had to adjust the neck on the black one a couple of times so far. I put on 11's and it seems to be taking a bit to settle in, the white one I stayed with 10's for now and after it's inital tweak it has stayed set.

Going to try a few different bridge pups in one of them this week, got some OD caps to swap in as well.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

OK so the black one got the nice hardware and the white one got the pickups, both got a setup and had the nuts properly cut for 11's. What difference a good setup makes, everytime.

On the black one I put a TonePros bridge and a Gibson tailpiece. The newer Gibson tailpieces that say Advanced Plating Inc. seem pretty good. Those 2 upgrades made a huge difference to the overall sound of the guitar, better resonance, broader tonal range and more sustain.

The white one got a Pearly Gates bridge pickup and a BB1 neck, both chrome covered 4-wire. I pulled them from my SG where they really didn't do it for me but in the Epi, wow, I can see why the PG gets some rave reviews. THe BB1 is still only a little better than so-so for me but will do fine in this guitar, the upgrade over the stock Epi pups is huge.

Next up the black one gets a set of 4-wire chrome covered '59's and I figure at some point I will upgrade the tuners, I am not much of a fan of Jin-Ho tuners.

I also re-wired the SG with '59 neck and C5 bridge pickups. I was right this guitar really needs A5 pickups. The '59 neck is perfect, the C5 will get a good test run for now but I may just go '59's all the way.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Try swapping in an A8 mag into the C5. I've found that the C8 was made for an SG bridge position. So much better than the C5.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

So since I can never leave well enough alone I decided to part with the black Wilshire (it's in the Trading Post). I put the C5/59 set in the white Wilshire which has since been named Fred. Fred is a bad MOFO, Fred and I have become really good friends in fact he spent the day in the studio with me and killed it.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

I thought you had sold the Wilshire! Which suprised me cuz you liked it so much. Guess I was w..w...w (like Fonzie, I cant say it...) Glad you are still diggin it! I really like em! If I could justify another guitar... The one I played had the mini buckers and I loved it.. If you are diggin the C5, then rock on.. I personally am addicted to C8s. Done that to everyone of my Customs but the C5 i have in my squier strat.. It just gets on with that axe.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Selling my black Wilshire, keeping the white. I do dig 'em but I am building up a war fund for a Tele
