• Headstock shape looks like a vintage narrow instead of more flared like contemporary models.
• Frets look like they lack nibs.
• Pickguard looks, off.
• Gibson logo and crown should be inlaid, this looks like its screened.

Again, hard to tell from the poor pics, better pics and also of the back and for sure inside the control cavity would help.

I'm leaning toward fake. The SGs with screened logo and crown with parallelogram inlays don't have binding. I find it hard to believe someone would put binding on one of those and refret it over the top. The truss cover is definitely not Gibson - wrong font and in the wrong location. The logo is not seated at the correct angle. The pickguard is actually right, but the pickups, particularly the bridge is sitting further from the bridge than it should, more where a P-90 would sit. Tuners are not what's used on Gibson. The lower bout appears to be larger than a real SG, even given the angle, but can't tell how much of that is camera distortion.

Most? Or most of the one's you've played?

I'm sure it plays nice, but in my experience, SG's are less hit or miss than LP's. I have only played a couple SG's that I wouldn't have loved to own.

Congrats on the new guitar day–you seem happy with it so that's great that it was a good trade for ya.

Not an expert on SGs (Gibson for that matter, more of a Fender guy but I don't claim expert on anything) so can't say if fake or real. If you prefer the tone and playing of this to what you traded then well done.

Knob pattern is off too... Both volumes are usually close to horizontal to each other on a Gibson.

An SG is a flat piece of mahogany, hopefully with a set in neck, assembled properly for good intonation and decent action. Better pickups get you some better tone. However, in the end if you have a $6k Gibson and bad hands it will sound like crap, conversely it you have a $100 Chinese copy and good hands you can make beautiful music. So stop fussing and get those hands in shape.

It looks like it actually does have the binding nibs, and usually people making counterfeits wouldn't take bother with a relatively small detail that takes care and effort when building something fake, so I'm a bit more believing now that it's real. Happy NGD.

Only a moron would trade an SG Standard for an Epi Dot Studio. Granted, there are plenty of morons around but regardless ... I'm either going with fake or a wee bit of embellishment on the details of the swap.
