NGD incoming: squier jazzmaster

Re: NGD incoming: squier jazzmaster

This is my second indonesian squier and they are not on par with China. I wish mine was made in China but oh well :)
I looked long at the Mascis JM but honestly I loved the sonic blue color, wanted low output pickups, and wanted to really see what the vintage bridge is like. The Squier JM is the closest thing to vintage until you hit the AVRI line. I find the Mascis pickguard gaudy, sorry :)
The dang CIJ ones I found out use (somewhat lame) strat pickups in a JM pickup cover/housing and 250K pots...surprising.
Those Japanese are often quite fanatical about guitars, especially offset ones, it's strange that they can't set up tooling to make even crappy but real JM pickups or even use duncan designed ones like Squier!

I can't put my new guitar down though. Played my strat for 30 minutes yesterday, played the jazzmaster for probably 3 hours.
Played the Jazzmaster for an hour tonight to0, after I got home from work.
Haven't touched my agile since I got the JM.

One other "quirk" I'm dealng with is hum. The JM pickups have huge surface area and the guitar looks like it is lined with shielding paint but I'm not an expert. But these things hum a lot. It's better through my Orange amp than my cheap fender combo.
Just one of those things that goes with the territory. I can use the rhythm circuit as a kill switch when I'm not playing, and while I am, I just try to face the right direction and play as normal.
I'm gonna see how high I can get the bridge pickup to enhance my signal to noise ratio.

BTW I am starting to freaking LOVE this bridge position. Strat type of clarity and bite but warm and balanced (I think the flat poles are a good match).

Looks pretty good on a '59 to me anyway ;) One of the reasons I liked the Mascis version, and the pickups aren't particularly hot that I can tell. The only import I've had that I stuck with the stock pickups

Hmmm it looks a little more enticing in that photo, plus the wear and tear on it kinda breaks up the gold that I find a little flashy. Fender/Squier's photos leave a little to be desired.
It's like, I'll admit Squier's very pale take on sonic blue is kinda gaudy but in a totally different way, y'know? Different strokes for different folks.
Maybe someday I'll have a JM collection at which point a Mascis one would have to be part. But for my FIRST one I wanted to try the vintage bridge and my instinct was to try pickups closer to low output.
