The tax man brought me good news this year. So before my refund even arrived, I made the trek across the state to go pick this gem up.
I also did my part to support local music shops, and to help with the economic recovery. I'm hoping to find a more secure day job this year.

Though it's obviously based on a Strat design, it has a sound all its own. I A/B'ed it with a couple of Strats. Not similar at all. It's louder, fatter, and more focused. I wonder how close it is to a P-90 equipped guitar. It should sound great through my rig, with the bridge pickup on, trying to get a Gilmour-ish lead tone.

Wow that looks slick! That neck is beautiful and I like those smooth, contoured looking pickups. How hot are the pickups? Sweet guitar, congratulations. Can you post some better closeups of the neck and headstock?

Yeah! I've been getting some serious GAS for these lately, and this post is definitely NOT helping... Nice guitar! Enjoy, and happy new guitar day!

Heh, maybe it's just me, but didn't you just go ahead and got yourself the most anti-PRS PRS guitar there is? :)
Of course, as long as you make it sing, s'all good.

 Right you are! It's a PRS that isn't, and it's a Strat that isn't.
If I want to crank out riffs on a 2 humbucker guitar, I've got a few Hamers that I love to play. But I never get tired of new variations on the Strat theme. Guitars that take that basic design but improve the upper fret access, have a slim, shreddable neck, add a flame maple top, have a more solid bridge, a scaled down body, a smoother feeling trem, a meatier sounding bridge single coil... those fascinate me. That's my tone quest. It probably all goes back to my teen years, and the things I wasn't quite satisfied with in my first electric guitar which was a Fender Strat.

aneyekay1, they do make these in transparent colors too. The shop I visited happened to have a couple in solid colors, but priced lower than the transparent finish ones I see on GC's and Sweetwater's sites.

UberMetalDood, the pickups are quite a bit hotter than Strat pickups, and sound completely different. I would not consider one of these if you're looking for something just like a Strat but made by someone else. They're way hotter. They're fuller sounding, but also not as complex. More focused. They made the Robert Cray and SRV Strats that I also plugged in to compare tones sound wimpy. The Strats have more high end sparkle. The PRS has a more solid, focused midrange. It sounds tighter and more defined through a distorted amp. Through a blues overdrive, Strats obviously have their own awesome tone. This PRS would sound thicker and warmer through a Fender amp type overdrive. I wonder how close the tone of these PRS pickups is to something like a Cool Rails.

Metal Maniac, the pickups are not active. What you see from the front is actually a curved plastic cover that goes over the pickups. Peering underneath it, they look like standard passive singles, with cloth tape around the windings visible, and rod pole pieces.

Glad you guys are liking the pics. I'll check back in tonight.

First time I saw one of those was a pic of Buddy Guy playing a white one at a PRS Event. Thought that it was an instant classic from the moment I saw it.

That's a beauty! Congrats & enjoy the hell out of it!

Beauty, I would love to hear some clips compared to one of your strats if possible man, I have always been interested in the 305's...
