Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

Did you get that off eBay??????
I swear I was watching one last week!!!!!

Actually, yes. But not that one from last week. IIRC, that was a seller self admitted partscaster.

And where are the PJ Marxx pickups?!?!?!?!?

Can you even get those anymore???

Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

I've met him a couple of times. He's a super cool guy.

Awesome! I was a bit young when Night Ranger first came out, and missed them somehow, but I discovered them many years later starting with their first album. And of course, you can take the man out of the '80s, but you can't take the '80s out of the man, so I dug 'em!

First time I saw Ozzy was with Brad.. next few times was Jake.. plus saw him with Night Ranger too..
Awesome guitar find and very cool that he was so cool with you!! It looked like he was genuinely happy signing it. Often times they look quite annoyed. Ive thought that guit pretty Iconic since first seeing him. he was awesome!

That's awesome. Night Ranger had great tunes and double trouble on guitar (Gillis & Watson).

Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

I'll bet guys like Gillis love seeing where their old signature gear ends up, and especially so when it's in the hands of appreciative players and longtime fans.

Brad was right there when Floyd Rose started, and it's been documented that Brad Gillis got Floyd Rose #4. Guys like EVH and Schon had early ones too. Schon had #3. I'd like to know if they're referring to the first fine tuner models or the non fine tuner models.

Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

the non fine tuner models.

his old red Strat has the very early double locking with no fine tuners. he seems to try to hunt them down, but I'm figuring he's had his share of the ones with the fine tuners as well. he claims those early ones were better at staying in tune than when they started mass production a few years later. I know my 80s German Floyds are a LOT more stable than the newer ones (German or Asian), so I've always wanted to lay hands on one of those more rare extremely early ones.

Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

I remember seeing a few guitars in the early 80's with NFT Floyd Rose locking trems. I never understood their appeal. Once the nut is locked and a string goes out of tune, you'd have to unlock it and retune. It's easy to see why Floyds didn't catch on until the fine tuner Floyds came out.

Sorry to derail the thread, but you can't talk about Gillis without mentioning early Floyd Rose tremolos. Gillis, Schon, and Eddie pioneered the things through their playing to this day. Gillis is like an encyclopedia of whammy tricks.

those very early ones were more like this

learning on a fine-tuner version, that's always been a mystery to me as well. same with those nuts on the back end.

Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

Meh - lock, play the heck out of it, retune and lock. Done...

Re: NGD recently, Brad Gillis Fernandes Sig Strat

I came across this video and thought it was pretty cool. Also noticed the NFT Floyd.

Also note that he's playing one of his signature Fernandes Strats. He semi-retired his Fender a few years ago, and uses his Fernandes on the road now. That alone tells me those Fernades Strats must be pretty decent.
