they probably just need the height adjusted
lower them a bit

if they are too bright
a larger value volume pot should tame it a bit also

Lowering pickups tends to focus the treble/brightness. If the complaint is that they're too bright and sound weak, they may be too low.

no I don't think that is the issue as they are right under the strings at 24th fret pressed down... I think I may try a 550k pot.

His complaint is also that it sounds weak, so I wonder if it is a volume pot issue, where it's reducing the volume coming through, even when turned up all the way. (Although if the neck output is okay, maybe it's the switch?) Try running the bridge pickup straight to the jack.
