Ngd: something dif for me. A/E

just ordered one of these Takamine gc5ce’s. This’ll be my first nylon acoustic/electric.

Made in China but the price and spec ratio was good enough for me to dip my feet into the water for this style of guitar. If i play it a lot, i might dip into something more expensive.

One complaint of the appearance is that the grain of the rosewood neck looks a little dry for my usual taste. I generally prefer a dark/slicker wood like ebony. Hoping it suits me well enough.

Anyone here ever try one of these? I used to only buy usa/japanese but change my perspective completely after positive experiences with two indonesian guitars.

Looks nice

I’ve wanted to get one myself since I got used to writing songs on a nylon string guitar

I like the timbre and how friendly the softer strings are for runs and such

I’m kinda tempted to cancel and order something higher end. Really, though, when i order a higher end guitar 9 times out of 10 i wish i had something i can just pull off the stand, anyway. Gonna take a chance with this one, for now.

Thanks for chiming in with the nice compliment, too. Def not my typical guitar. Hope i dig it!

Looks nice. The only problem I have with nylon, and/or classic guitars, is the neck is usually too wide for my hands. But if it fits you, sweet.

Takamine doesn't make junk. Even the low end is decent. Can you play classical/Spanish?

Re: Ngd: something dif for me. A/E

Thanks guys. I can’t play classical or spanish but plan to use it for chord melody stuff. I’m unfamiliar with takamine so i really appreciate the positivity. Yeah, though, as pointed out - neck width will prob be an issue at first

Nice looking guitar and what a coincidence. I have a 1990 Takamine Jasmine classical guitar myself that I absolutely love and is very well made and it plays marvellous. Congrats on your purchase.

Guitar arrived this evening. I have absolutely no issue with the neck shape (i was surprised), the action is a lot higher than i’m used to, though. When i first saw the string height, my initial reaction was “oh lord.” When i tried it, it wasn’t as big of an ordeal as i initially thought, considering how loose the strings are compared to a steel string. Debating if i’m gonna ask my guy to lower it. I can play pretty darn fast on it, except for sweeping arpeggios. I’m thinking if i keep it as is, it will force my left hand to become stronger.

Btw- it SOUNDS awesome. At first my pick was causing a lot of scraping noises. Then, i adjusted the treble and BOOM, all better.

Re: Ngd: something dif for me. A/E

Just got done checking it out again now—- yeah, def gonna need to lower the action

gonna need to lower the action
Be careful with what you wish for, specially if the tech's got little of no experience with nylon-stringed instruments: the action has to be quite a bit higher than on an electric- or even steel-stringed instruments, as the law of physics dictates for the higher amplitude of movement a nylon string has, to be able to freely move and vibrate it needs room to do that.

Consider yourself warned! ;)

My repair guy knows what he is doing. I just got it back yesterday. String height is still higher than my other guitars, but it is MUCH more playable now. Takamine def neglected to make the guitar fairly playable before sending it out. All is great now!!
