I wonder what a Sustainiac is.
It's kind of like a built in ebow. Creates a magnetic field under the strings that makes them vibrate without you picking.
I know both Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew get some great use out of the Sustainer pickups on their guitars. Again, I'd love to be able to spend some time with one before I commit. I wonder how different it is to 'play' than something like the Freqout pedal.
I have a cheapo Fernandes sustainer superstrat, and I can basically play it normally even with the sustainer on, as long as I pay attention to muting and keep in mind that the strings will begin ringing out on their own. They don't come to life immediately and a picked note will dominate. Pretty intuitive and easy to control. Not a great guitar in other respects but the sustainer makes it a fun and unique studio tool. Looks like you can still find them here and there online for $400ish.
Thats a crazy cool finish fo sure! congrats!
I would ask you to post the sound of those pickups -but I dont have to -because I know you will! looking forward to hearing those
Also, with all the antiques in your house (looks like my house) I am also sorry for all of your losses as well.
I came across this video a while ago and I'm going to guess this is what it is....though this one in the video is a fancy one-off custom job and the Schecter is obviously mass produced..
Which pickups? This thread's full of clips of me trying out/arsing around w/ the Sustainiac (?)
Some of those came from my great-great grand parents 150 yr old house in Bombay ..the rest were from my late wife's father who collected antique furniture. We never actually bought any of it ourselves. But yeah everything in this house is old & decrepit (including me)
Good to know! I thought the price of admission was much higher.
