NGD spree continues - Something I've wanted for a very long time

An Ebow forces you to play in a completely different way, which isn't a bad thing at all.

haha..maybe, but .I'm just going to stick with the Sustainiac for now though..

This is with the neck pup (Sustainiac off)..it's not fantastic but a more than passable/usable tone

First try with some tapping towards the end there...tough to control/mute ...had to tap and slide my fingers rather than lift them off the strings (noise) which actually sounds pretty cool/different with the harmonic overtones always creeping in...lots of wailing too...anyway, you live and learn, lots of fun :bigthumb:

This mornings jam..bit more control with the Sustaniac..specially with tapping :bigthumb:

Also swapped both the 9V batteries for alkalines. The ones's in there were just regular cheapo non-alkaline 9V. Pretty sure they could've afforded to ship it with some decent batteries :poed:

nah it reverts to the bridge pup w/o a battery.....you know what's wierd /cool though. The sustainer works even unplugged if you turn on the switch and the guitar is'nt plugged in as long as the lead is in there (great way to drain your batteries if you're not careful :lmao:)

First I've heard of it too..

Anyway just banged out some pretty bad/sloppy random/improv doom riffs with the Sustainiac ...it works pretty well with power chords. I just had it on Mode 1 (sustain only) through most of the clip but switched to mode 2 towards the end. That simulates a real amp feeding back unlike position 3 which is almost instant squealies..did'nt use that position for this clip though..it works better for solo's..

Just used my lead tone from the Laney, did'nt dial in anything new.

Oh and the power chords were sustaining indefinitely as grindy power chords^^ . I just muted them gently with my right hand to kill the sustain so I could play the single note parts of the riffs. If you hit a power chord it pretty much just keeps going on and on ...and on & on :laugh2:

I know both Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew get some great use out of the Sustainer pickups on their guitars. Again, I'd love to be able to spend some time with one before I commit. I wonder how different it is to 'play' than something like the Freqout pedal.

Thats a crazy cool finish fo sure! congrats!

I would ask you to post the sound of those pickups -but I dont have to -because I know you will! looking forward to hearing those

Also, with all the antiques in your house (looks like my house) I am also sorry for all of your losses as well.:)

I have a cheapo Fernandes sustainer superstrat, and I can basically play it normally even with the sustainer on, as long as I pay attention to muting and keep in mind that the strings will begin ringing out on their own. They don't come to life immediately and a picked note will dominate. Pretty intuitive and easy to control. Not a great guitar in other respects but the sustainer makes it a fun and unique studio tool. Looks like you can still find them here and there online for $400ish.

Good to know! I thought the price of admission was much higher.

I came across this video a while ago and I'm going to guess this is what it is....though this one in the video is a fancy one-off custom job and the Schecter is obviously mass produced..

Which pickups? This thread's full of clips of me trying out/arsing around w/ the Sustainiac (?)

Also, with all the antiques in your house (looks like my house) I am also sorry for all of your losses as well.

Some of those came from my great-great grand parents 150 yr old house in Bombay ..the rest were from my late wife's father who collected antique furniture. We never actually bought any of it ourselves. But yeah everything in this house is old & decrepit (including me :( )

Yeah, my house looks like an art museum from all my relatives passing. Nice reminder of them all, but I have too much
