NGD this past Friday

I took delivery of a Prestige Musician Pro. Tons of up-scale features in a modestly priced guitar. And I am now up to 6 Duncans, total. 3 in the Strat (SSL-1s and a 5 in the bridge), an old Vintage Stack in the ASAT, and 2 humbuckers in this Prestige guitar, which was a big reason I selected it.

I needed to raise the action just a pinch, installed a set of Pyramid strings, and it sounds righteous!View attachment 54193

Re: NGD this past Friday

No!

That's a VERY nice looking guitar. The white guard is a bit stark, however.

As the man said, wrong guitar. And, at the risk of opening the all-Strats-should-be-some-weird-solid-color can of worms, which white guard looks "stark" to you? Cause I count two of them.

Congrats Bro! Very nice! If I had the $ Id get one of the limited (anniv?) model Lp type models they have out right now. They are feature loaded and very nice guitars

Thanks. I figured that, buying it without playing it, my risks were (1) fit & finish, and (2) tone. The Duncans more or less took care of (2). The fit & finish are excellent. These folks do a very nice job with assembly. I considered the D'Angelico model that has a very close resemblance. This one has solid woods and better components across the board.

I guess I should have said...

"The white guard on that Tele is a bit stark, however."

Sorry for ruffling a few feathers.

Re: NGD this past Friday

OK, I see what I did that upset you guys. Let me start all over with what I meant to say.

No!

That's a VERY nice looking guitar. Three very nice looking guitars.

The white guard on that Tele is a bit stark, however.

Does that work?

Thanks for the compliments, and the clarification. That was actually my initial reaction to that guard. I still haven't ruled out a swap, but I am going to move very slowly. It is the original, made out of aluminum, and the G&L afficionados insist that it has something to do with the tone you get, which makes perfect sense to me.

And I do not want to mess with the tone I am getting from that baby. I call it The Truth, because when you plug it in, that's what you get.

Re: NGD this past Friday

So what pickups did you put in it? And what type of music did you get it for? I'm kind of assuming that if you were looking at the D'Angelico, you intended it to be a jazz box, which is what it looks like it was made for. Very cool. I always wondered if Bigsbys messed with the stability of the intonation. Looks damn cool, though.

IIRC they come with a jb and a 59n.

Yes, it has a 59 and a JB. I play mostly the blues. I looked at a bunch of different axes to sort of finish off my collection, the common thread being that I wanted something with humbuckers, given that I have the Strat and the ASAT. I seriously considered LPs (I am babysitting one right now). ES-335 was another model I looked at, both Gibsons and the Heritage brand. I guess I am moving into some swing and swing-type blues and blues based jazz, which is what lead my in the direction of Ibanez and the D'Angelicos.

I actually blocked the whammy bar on my Strat years ago. I have no issues to report with the Bigsby so far. Time will tell.
