NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

Something Cool
Trying to find a good bolt-on for me. Still looking.

Daytona has 2x JYM + 1x HS3 for pickups.

Both have Sperzel locking tuners. The Daytona was sent to me across the country and only on the second day playing I realized I never tuned it since I got it. For the Petrucchi I dunno since I got the strings off instantly.

The Petrucchi is a pawn shop orphan with some scratches, dirty fingerboard, no trem bar. It'll need some time to feel secure.

I think it's one of those models that has specially made Dimarzios that they refuse to sell without the guitar.

I don't think they are that spectacular. I haven't decided what to try for pickups, for either of these. I have more urgent projects and I'll let these two sink in a bit before I do some swaps and then sell them.

That Petruuci is really nice, with the maple against the red. Thats the nicest one I`ve seen, I`m not a big fan of the dark ones that seem to be the recent trend.

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

Yeah I didn't want the color... well like the Daytona is :D Dark blue that looks nice in perfect light and too dark normally.

Oh and the pawn shop selling the Petrucchi took the MUSIC MAN embossed case, slapped a USPS stamp on it and just mailed it without a box. No signature requirement either so it was sitting in front of my door just like I had forgotten my valuable MUSIC MAN guitar when packing my car.

Well, I always say, if you don't have a box big enough for something, it must not need one!

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

i'm usually not a bit fan of the EBMM Petrucci's but that looks killer in that deep candy red.

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

FOUL!!!!!!!!

Only one shot of that Killer Daytona? You like?

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

They are both allright.

The daytona's neck is nice except for having both a fretboard and a skunk strips. Both have nice frets, markmanship is flawless, fret size is not messed up.

Both have non-steel tremolo blocks. Not a big deal, in the case of the pretrucchi probably a feature, not a bug.

Music Man pisses me off. The only realy I bought a petrucchi is that I can't play a 1-5/8" nut and the Petrucchi is the only one they make with a 1-11/16" nut. Next thing I know is that I run out of space on the JP. Measuring result: the nut is even wider than 1-11/16" but the string slots are cut in positions so that the strings are in the same place as on a 1-5/8" nut. That's nuts.

The YJM/YJM/HS-3 combo sounds nice when you just pick it up and play it. And noiseless is good to have. I don't think it give the real Strat bell as-is.

I'm not sure either is a keeper for me, I am very strict about only keeping keepers these days. Not enough man-cave space :D

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

That looks like a Daytona I sold a few months ago. Is there a paint chip near the neck pocket on the treble side?

As far as the EBMM's nut....welcome to an R3 style nut. I don't know how those compare to an OFR nut (and whether one would attach without modification), but it might be worth looking into an OFR R4 nut, which is 1 11/16" with wider string spacing than an R3.

Not yet :D

It's not a locking trem.

I considered having a new nut done. Not sure yet.

Duh. I reckon I was only looking at the Daytona pics. Anyway, yeah, if you like the guitar otherwise and want it to be a keeper.....getting a new nut would be the ticket.

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

I think both are lookers! I'd be happy with either one.

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

That's a nice color red.

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

The Petrucci looks sharp, i'll have to play one next time i am in GC to see if i notice the string spacing...

Re: NGD with too many pics for a change (Daytona and Petrucchi)

If you decide you want to sell the Daytona, PM me. I've been looking for one for awhile. :-)
