The rocket red is really like a dayglo red/orangey color, very 80's, SL4X, always wanted a YJM Fender, but those things are expensive...even used. Besides, I like neck thru guitars better than bolt on, sustain difference is big. The slx dx has a brass sustain block on the floyd which makes it even better, and a brass claw. The 4x is gonna get the same, and both are gonna get titanium retainer blocks and stainless string lock bolts along with brass fine tuners. Some silent springs too, right now I got a piece of foam folded up in both. So my inspiration for the sl4x was the Fender YJM, but I'm also a big Joe Stump fan. So maybe both those guy's influenced my decision on my future mods. The guy that inflienced my purchase of the neon orange 4x...Jeff Beck. He played one in the 80's(check out his Ambitious video). His was a Jackson custom shop guitar though. Charvel also had a model with a reverse headstock. Jeff's pink Jackson(Tina) named because Tina Turner carved her name in it, had a Kahler, which Jeff didn't like. So those are the reasons for the why and a little history on the SL4X. Oh yeah, always thought Yngwie should have used Floyd's on his guitars, so that too. As far as the pups, I have a friend with a Fender with some in it, and I love the way they sound. The stock pups are a little dark sounding to me and very microphonic when I turn my noise gate off. With YJM pups you can do bluesy and jazzy stuff, and get away with some spanky country stuff, but just barely. Sorry this was so long dude, but you asked.
