It was actually Friday. A new Suhr Classic Antique Strat in Sonic Blue. The roasted maple neck is what got me in the first place- smooth as silk and the Plek machine does and amazingly great job of dressing the frets. This is by far the most stratty sounding strat that I've ever owned- the notch positions are perfect for getting those Sweet Home Alabama or Sultans of Swing tones. The humbucker in the bridge is a nice boost for solos but not so hot that it screws up the clean notch position tone when combined with the neck, and the neck is perfect for those Bold as Love tones. I never thought that I would be a relic kind of guy, but it plays so well that I really couldn't care less. It's also not the color that I would've picked, but the guitar picked me in that it was the one in the bunch that fit my hands so much more perfectly than the others. I couldn't be happier.
It begs the question- I really no longer play Hamers. I have a couple, but they stay in cases and have been replaced by PRS and now Suhr. Should I change my name?
