NHWD - Floyd Rose content

I ordered some new hardware for my Les Paul Custom Lite. I got a Floyd Rose FRX bridge and some Grover locking tuners. I am still waiting on the tuners. I am not typically an FR fan, but this trem is a different animal, and I figured I would give it a fly. Two options I like are that it can be set to floating/non-floating with an allen wrench twist and that it has a built-in block that can be set on the fly with a thumb screw.

Cool that it's totally reversible. I'm guessing the travel will be quite different from a regular floyd (less range)?

From everything I have watched and read, the range is the same as a typical FR: You can go full divebomb. "Designed to give the impression and feel of a true Floyd Rose"

Oh, that's cool. I'm interested to hear how well it works.

Not 100%. The locking nut would require drilling two screws into the headstock. That is why I got the locking tuners for better stability and less slippage.

I am very excited to get this on. If it works as advertised, I am very tempted to put one on my SG, too.

I've seen that one for a while. Curious how it works out. Not that I would put that on either of my Les Pauls but always curious how the newer stuff like this works compared to the traditional locking trems. One big appeal is not having to route the body.

I got it set up it feels great. It takes 2 seconds to block or unblock the term, you could do it on the fly during a song. It feels like a FR you can do any of the whammy stuff on it you would do on any other tremolo. I have the locking Grovers on there also.

Floyd Rose is genuinely a mechanical genius; the OFR was brilliant, but packaging it into a surface mount/no scar package for an LP is next level. Making it actually look cool, instead of something kludged on, is just icing on the cake.

I'd also be interested in what tonal differences you hear with it on.

Really cool! Did you feel any difference in the tone of the intrument?

I am not hearing anything concerning. Maybe a bit brighter but it didn't drastically shift the sound of the guitar. I am playing at home with my practice amp, I will be able to better tell if there are any major tonal shifts when I plug into my main rig and practice with the full band on Saturday. It sounds and plays amazing so if anything maybe I might need to tweak a tone knob, but for now, I am fine with it.

Oddly enough I have never seen a Floyd equipped LP I liked, but that looks pretty damn good. Personally I'd go with a Bigsby B7 myself, but I am surprised by how much I dig that set up.
