Nice bait and switch from Musicians Friend

I saw a B. C. Rich on MF and I was going to pull the trigger. I had the plastic in hand. I saw this B. C. Rich for $375, bound neck, head stock and body in a lovely trans red. All mahogany, I was in love. I figured I would put a set of WLH in it and get a classic vibe on the ax. Or maybe throw in some Black Winters and go for broke. The front page says "up to 70% off." When I tried to by the trans red the price popped up to $799. When I called MF to see why I couldn't buy the trans red, the guy said "that is weird let me check". It seems only the ugly black metalflake with no binding is on sale. Why? Because it is so ugly they probably can't move it.

Why have the landing page page for the product default to the trans red with the $379 price? Legal? Somewhat. Shady? Without a doubt.

Actually think that is just random stupidity , always check the drop box for the different available models. That website moves and changes so much I feel sorry for the webmaster , everything is on the way out the door before they get it. I got an email from them recently about an even nicer one for about the same price , I want a Bich but we all know that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Always beware "Starting At". Looking at apartments for "as low as XXX.XX"? They won't have any at that price.

Agreed but I have never seen a price swing that big and they shouldn't lead with the most expensive product. In reality those are not even the same guitars. We all know what a bound headstock, neck and body do to the price/value of a guitar. Not to mention the quilt top.

I emailed the CEO at Musicians Friend and stated my case. I got a call from one of the managers just now and I got the guitar for $379! Bonus my wife bought it as a Christmas gift.

My co-worker bought his son a Les Paul standard from them last Christmas. The guitar arrived with a small blemish in the finish. Very small, the size of a dime. The kid *****ed, they sent it back. Another one came, and it was worse that the first. It had many issues. The MF said the color was discontinued (some dark shade of blue with some metal flake), and he would either get a refund, or pick another color.

If there was an Olympic *****ing team, this guys wife would get the gold medal every four years. She *****ed complained, and made a stink. They upgraded the kid to a nicer model, with push pull pots, and a nice vintage sunburst finish. They did stand by their product, and made the problem right. I was surprised it ended as well as it did.

Aren't there professional kvetchers you can hire for stuff like this? I'm picturing someone who plays a lot of golf and wears an expensive watch but will slice your guts open over a free refill on a soda.

I'm looking at Bruce's second screencap, and how it shows the trans red guitar, mentioned the finish in the product name near the top, and shows the price as "New Starting At $379.99." Was there any way to buy a new one of these in trans red at that price? I'm thinking not, and that's where the discrepancy comes in.

Obviously they also thought something was wrong with the copy or I wouldn't have gotten the guitar for $379. For the record they took the time to look up my home number on my MF account and call me to get this resolved.

One thing about MF they are serious about customer service and will go out of their way to make you happy. Waiting on the truck now it left at 4:23am might be here by 2pm . Good score man , glad it worked out for you !

I know Amazon does the same thing–you can e-mail the CEO directly and he will make sure the issue is resolved. Glad they honored the price!
